Do You Wear for Others?

There is a proverb in my mother tongue which says 'Eat for yourself and Wear for Others!'. That means since eating is entirely depends upon you and your taste you are at liberty to satisfy your soul through your stomach and taste buds. So there is no problem with this. Now coming to second part of the proverb , which says wear for others, I think it implies that we should dress in such a way that our dress should speak about our personality without uttering a single word about us. This again implies a lot of things like dressing neat and clean, keeping one self trimmed and tidy, having appropriate attire at suiting the occasion, wearing casuals at casual occasions and wearing the Formals at formal occasions etc. Now I can understand many of us must be following the first part of the proverb as most of us eat as per our wish. But I am rather interested in knowing about the second part of the proverb, Do you wear for others taking all the above discussed factors into consideration? Are you a person who is a Care Free type who is comfortable in a pair of Jeans with a loose fitting T - Shirt or a thorough Gentlemen/Lady who would like to be dressed in a Tip Top way? Please respond and Oblige! Thanks!

Hi AKRao! It's still pleasing to my ears as far as dressing is concerned as I still match the second proverb. But I'm still not one who could be dictated to wear what I should wear. When it comes to casuals I'm still comfortable in my cotton tshirts and bermudas on flip flops.

There you are dear Tomitomi, there are some people who find themselves very uncomfrtable positions to follow the rulesociety, laid out by the Society. For them these rules are meaningless andrediculous! These peopleare kings of their own kingdom and they live in their own World to enjoy the life every moment without coming under pressure at any time! I call them as carefree birds.Frankly speaking I also belng to the same flock, but with the age and other social factors some time under duress I have to follow the dress code! Thanks for responding!

Well My friend I am a lawyer, and while doing law I have had One compelete lecture on our dress code, in which Our professor told us some code of dress, though we have to courts with proper dress, but we cant even go to markets in a freestyle dress as you mention If we go by the etheics and Morals of our profession. we Are Not allowed to wear Pajama's and T-Shirts, even if we go to amrkets.we have to be well dressed all the time when we go out on functions and parties and on some other occasions. Besides this I would like to mention here another phrase FIRST IMPRESSION IS YOUR LAST IMPRESSION. This phrase is made out clearly for your quiry as the first impression is always made our from your physical outlook, Your dressing sense , your hair stylem your wlaking style and all that. I hope you would have got your answer in my respose. Have a Nice day.

Dear Jagjit it is not the point, as professionals we are supposed to wear the attire suitable to our job. may it be lawyers like you or Doctors like me. We are taught about in our professional colleges and we are expected to behave in that fashion only. For that matter we are all taught about how to get dressed when we were in school. Are you forgetting how our teachers would check our uniform for its cleanliness, they used to check if the shoes aere properly polished or not. They even used to the trousers to see what is the condition of our socks. Recall how they used to adjust the tie around our necks! What I mean thereby is that, it is OK that we are taught about our dress code and dressing sense by someone, every one gets such learning experience, but my point is in spite of getting such experience still we tend to have our own taste of dressing up as we mature as responsible adults. I like to wear casuals more than formals as I feel confident in that, it doesn't mean that I always wear them or ask others to wear them! Any ways , thanks for participation and appreciate your participation!

Anytime I am leaving my home, I make sure I am properly dressed and looking my best. I do not do this for others; I do it for me! When I know I am looking good and that people who see me will see me looking my best, I am more confident and comfortable. The only time I "dress down" is when I am at home, not expecting any visitors, and not planning on going anywhere. Going out where others can see me looking bad would make me very uncomfortable and self conscious.

Yes dear Speakeasy, you have a point that you dress up yourself for your self so that you look attractive or pleasant to others. That is what the point is all about! We are careful enough to present ourselves better for the people around us! Thus even if you are ding it for yourself you are indirectly caring and paying the attention towards the society in which you are living, which normally we don't do when taking food! We always have our food as per our wish and we never think what people will think about it! Like in India many communities don't appreciate having non -veg food for them it is taboo even to talk about it1 But that doesn't mean that I leave eating non-veg for them as know that they hardly know what actually I am eating as it is totally a personal thing for me! Thanks for participating!

I wear whatever is appropriate. I follow dress codes. It's socially acceptable this way.

That's very true and that's what I wanted to imply that one has to follow the dress code when living in a society to form a indispensable member of that group! Thanks for responding!
