Trying to get my first job. Any tips/hints/advice?

Well... I'm trying to get my first job. My first choice store is indeed hiring. I REALLY want to work there. I filled out an application and turned it in. I can already see some places where I could have done better. (Like turning it in to the manager instead of just handing it to the employee.) My brother Joe says that after I turn in an application I need to go bug them every couple of days to "check in on my application"... Which sounds like a good idea to me. (Did I mention I REEAAAAALLLLLLLLY want to work there?) But now I can't talk to my brother (We've lost contact... will probably regain it again sometime soon...at least I hope so...) So I don't know what to say if I did go in to "check on my application". Anyone know what I'm talking about? Any ideas? Is it inappropriate to do that? It's not the end of the world if I don't get to work at this place. (For the record, it's a Joann Fabric store and craft store.) So advice for applying elsewhere is great too :) Thank you all for your time and advice :) Also. The go to thing of asking my friends / family's friends about a job? Won't work. I don't know much anyone here, we moved to this city last year... and we don't have a whole lot of friends to ask about that :( That we know well enough I mean... gah. You know what I mean right? Thanks again :)

You might wanna send some more applications. Applying on only one won't help your probability of getting hired. Your brother was right. You should follow up once in a while your application for them not to forget about it. It's your responsibility too.
