Surgically induced hysterectomy and short term memory loss

I had a hysterectomy about eight years ago. I took hormones for about a year and then gradually came off of them. As the years have gone by I have noticed changes in my body due to the lack of estrogen. My skin is getting thinner, I've lost muscle tone and so on. What is bothering me the most is the short term memory loss. It's driving me nuts! I'm 52-years-old and I know memory loss goes along with aging. But this, forgetting things from one second, that's right, from one second to the next second is making me want to rip my hair out. One day I bought two drinks and one candy bar, when the girl told me the total I almost fell out on the floor. Just that quick I had no recollection of the candy bar that was sitting right my purse where I laid it until I looked down. My husband and I were driving along and he asked me a question and I told him we had just had that conversation earlier in the day. He told me I may have had the conversation, but it hadn't been with him. I had actually had the conversation with our daughter the day before. And around the house in the evening, it's nothing for me to ask the same question two or three or even four times. I'll catch my husband and our daughter looking at each other grinning. In some ways it is comical, buy in other ways it's so darn frustrating. I have to make make a conscience effort when I park in the Wal Mart parking lot to say out loud what isle I'm parked on. If I can remember to do that, why can't I just remember where I parked the stupid car in first place? I have always been a very conscientious person, which may be one reason this is bothering me a little more than it normally would. I just know something is off and I don't want to take synthetic hormones. Is there anything out there that is natural that would aid in this? I'm not looking for a cure, just a little aid and relief. Truth is I don't mind getting older and having memory loss, I know it's normal and natural. I thank the good Lord that I have lived long enough to begin experiencing some of the symptoms that go along with aging. Also, I have been to the doctor and he recommended ginkgo and talking to a health food specialist. He said he would give me low-dose hormone if I insisted but since I didn't have hot-flashes or night sweats that he would rather not since some of the side effects out-weigh the benefits. Sisters...can you give me some advice?
