How Dare You Say That!

I responded to a post yesterday saying how rare it was for me to lose my temper and now today I lost it. I'm still feeling quite cross so I will post this and then go to the sea and cool out for a few minutes.
As usual I have put the cart in front of the horse, so will start at the beginning.
I have been quite ill for about 5 weeks with walking pneumonia. I am getting better - just a horrible fatigue, but have had to go to work and then go home to bed.
Anyway, my GP is on maternity leave and I went to see her locum today and after examining me he dropped the bombshell!
He said that I was remarkably strong for an elderly lady. Excuse me?
Me elderly? Me, who is just coming up to her prime?
So I looked around to see the elderly person that he was talking to because he could not have thought it was me.
As there was no one else in the office I then had to assume that he was talking to me and that was when I lost it and asked him how dare he call me elderly.
Why only last month I had received a proposal of marriage. However, in all honesty it wasn't much of a compliment as the man is gay and I think that he just wanted a companion
Anyway - that is another story.
So tell me - has anyone made you feel old today?

You just made me feel soo very old today, my old friend. I thought we were of the same age as I too am in my prime now hehehehehe
Well, you know what, the last time I checked in at myLot I was so severely reprimanded by a charming Cynthie for suggesting her grandkids to call her Granny, Granny. I even took the pain to mail my little experience to the new doc in house. But he doesn't seem to be so intelligent afterall or maybe he doesn't pay heed to my valuable advice.
By the way, on a serious note did I ever tell you that I sometimes feel which is actually a lots of times that your writing inspires me so much.

You make me - a lady coming up t her prime - blush with all the compliments you give to me. Thank you too - you often make my day.
Yes. I should have postd about the pneumonia but I did not really have the energy to do so.
I am 90% recovered.
Pray for this country please. A tropical storm is headed for us and we will know by tomorrow whether it will have grown into a hurricane. This season has been horrible and many lives have been lost apart from loss of crops and damages to buildings. We are only 120 miles long and 45 miles wide at the widest point. We do not even need the eye of the storm to pass over us for us to receive devastation. God in His mercy help us.

Ah! almost forgot to scold you how come you didn't post something about your pneumonia and let the audience decide whether it was a Walking or a Running or a sleeping pneumonia.
Pray, you fell better now!

I can possibly only imagine how tough it is going on there for you. You have not been keeping well and you have mentioned it quite a few times before that the little island of yours have been hit by a series of hurricanes. I am truly sorry for those who lost their lives. And dear friend I pray at this very instant that the storm never turns into a hurricane or anything devastating other than a mild breeze. I pray for your good health and spirits.

My experience isn't nearly as offensive, but I had a doctor that I wanted to smack once. I came in (this was before I was diagnosed with ANYTHING) to see the doctor I'd had for a while. I told him my hair had been falling out. He reaches over, and yanks a clump of hair out of my head. And he goes, "Yep, it is falling out." It didn't fall out! He yanked it from my head! Looking back, I wish I had been more vocal with my anger.

At first I was surprised and then got angry. I have never considered myself to be elderly. I am a social person and am aways busy with my family, Church and friends and belong to a few organisations. I was shocked because this is not an ageist society. Many of my friends are in their 20's or 30's and we meet and have fun.
Three generations can Ive happily under one roof. Teenagers are not a breed apart from the rest at a. It was one of the things that attracted me to the people of this country.
He did apologise so I do not think that he will make that mistake again - at least not with me. Blessings

The problem is I am only 50

They use that term out here too. Also they call ladies 'Mummy'. I especially hate that and tell people that it is a word that only four people in the world can use - my children. So do not call me Mummy and by the way, I am not your Aunty either

50? you are still only a baby! I have four grandchildren and they call me Cynthie - this is my first name. It is the custom in my family for the grands to call their grandparents by their first name. I called my beloved grandmother Kathleen. Congratulations on the birth of your GD

You have a valid point there - but again - he should have known better. There I was swinging my hair with the blond streaks that is now just above my shoulders blond and a weight loss of 25lb. Gosh I looked good!

I saw your photo- remember - and you are very beautiful young lady. And I - well- I am a very beautiful not so young person. You disappoint me - I thought that it would have been you or dawn that would have made reference to the proposal of marriage from a gay person.
Is everyone politically correct? No one out here is politically correct.
I thought that you would have sharpened your claws on that item of news!

Well it would have be the rum as he would not want access to anything else
I hope that this does not get deleted.
He was actually very explicit as he said that he would give me everything except the big bamboo.
I would not want his bamboo! look where it has been! And now I will get chastised or deleted.
Yes, he definitely wants company -like someone to look after him when he is sick and to organise his laundry and meals. Who me? No way!

Cynthiann, after going through the other posts. I think it is time, to accept we are old. I am fifty, and I have a grand daughter, and when I put her on my shoulders and go for a walk, some young people come up to me and say grand father. Let me tell you I am 6 feet, and weigh only 80kgs, and my waist size is 36inches.(No pot Belly), and a head full of black hair (courtsey the bottle). It does not bother me.Well the truth is I am grandfather, so it is better to accept it.
Of course I am in far away India, otherwise, I would have come and met you, and asked you to be my girl friend.( I am not a gay.) You see I am still young at heart.

cynthian, today is my 28th Marriage anniversary.Yes somehow my wife had lived with me, for the last 28th years.Well I hope my wife is like you, the reason being I told her to color her hair, and she is refusing to do it. So today I am going to take her to the saloon, and give her hair color by force. Well after 28 years, I like to look at her as she was 28years before.
Anyhow, two young grand father and grand mother are going to enjoy our selves, because we are young at heart.
Let the moral sheriffs of mylot do their worst. Let us enjoy our discussions.

Nope but I would certainly feel the same way you did. Yesterday I had a gentleman tell me how spry I am.....and I told him that I was probably very close to his age. He said....well I know alot of women a lot younger then you that don't have as much energy....which brings me to another time and place....people all the time wonder how I have so much energy and say if they had all the energy I did they would get so much more done...case in point a friend who lays in bed all day...anyway I always tell her you have to get up early...not lay in bed half the day! And my whole family is this way....we can't sit still! LOL

cynthiann,
I nearly fell off my chair on this one.
What happened?
The clinic either had the shades on or your locum really need some prescription glasses. Anyway, I have to agree with you that some people just do not know how to put things in perspective, and leaves everyone floundering at the end of the day.
As for me, I do not need for people to make me feel old but recovering from constant jet lags are enough to put my mind to a level beyond my prime. Really feel like a piece of overdone steak.
However, I hope that you are getting better or better still - fully recovered from your horrible pneumonia and hear about your marriage proposal.
Take care.

I am almost recovered from walking pneumonia thanks and have recovered from the marriage proposal - even though he is still emailing and calling me etc. He is always greeting me at Church with big hugs and tries to hold my hand. Totally ridiculous. He says that he is not active but too much information. I really do not care. Cannot tell my children as they would never stop teasing me. All he wants is someone to look after him so go hire a housekeeper or a butler
I am over the rude remark that so devastated me yesterday. Just took me by surprise I suppose

At last someone mentioned the proposal. It was a hoot when he asked me as I was so embarrassed but knew that it was coming as he is lonely. Well - I am not lonely and do not want to be married again - nice as a friend but not marriage
I did not tell the children either. The teasing would still be going on.
I am getting better. Could not say that I really felt that ill but a heaviness on my chest and boy, the fatigue was not easy. still get tired easily - bit I am not elderly yet

i know just how you feel. my son used to have my ex best friend who was my age as a girlfriend and she used to live here with us. she took me to the doctor once and we were in the waiting room and she took up conversation with a younger couple in there. we were both myself and her 61yrs old at that time. she referred to me (loudly) to everyone there as her MIL!! now im thinking this would make me seem either much older then her or something.
so i felt the need to explain . which was an embarassment to us both and if she'd just called me her friend all that would be avoided.
so we ended up mad at each other for days. what idiot would not understand that i didnt want to be considered her MIL? uuuhhh. 1 person likes this

She was a total idiot and what was she doing dating your son? Doesn't sound like a good friend to me at all. I would have been so angry and upset with her. But don't understand why she was upset with you. If I had been in your position then I would have explained the situation too

Elderly? Elderly is not you! How rude of him! I imagine and elderly woman as a little old lady walking slowly with a stick all hunched over…But even that is not enough to define someone as elderly actually, age is just a number and your true age is in your spirit, that is why there are people who are old at 30 and some who young and vibrant at 70 and you my dear belong to the latter category, you will be young when you turn 70, 80, 90 and so on...How do I know? I just do!

No, nobody has made me feel old today, thankfully. I'm 58 years old but people tell me I look young for my age. I don't really feel my age, either. I guess it's because I exercise regularly. My mother always looked young for her age and I get it from her, I guess. I'm glad to know that you are feeling better but that certainly wasn't very nice of that doctor to call you elderly! I don't blame you for being upset! He could lose patients for this
! I once dated a guy who told me that his eye doctor told him one time that he was no spring chicken any more and he was only 46 years old at the time! He just told the doctor that he wasn't exactly an old man, either! I thought it was funny the way he responded, lol
! He was a character, anyway!

Take it easy, we are growing older by the day. But if I'm in your situation, I won't like the fact of being called an elderly when I'm not even one though I might be looking like one. No woman likes to be called old right in their face and the doctor is just insensitive to our feelings. While some kind souls might refer him as being straight forward and frank, but I won't take it lying down for sure.

Haha! Was that my discussion?
Anyway, my kids constantly make me feel old. Just today it was my turn to do the carpool. There were 5 kids in the van, and I couldn't relate to whatever they were talking about. I'm sure 'pokemon' was mentioned, and some level and lives in their Nintendo DS, and something about a playdate.
Man! Am I feeling old.

Never call yourself old.
I never refer to myself as old- I say that I am still just growing up.
I love your posts but it is hard to make the time to answer them in the depth that I would wish to do. You are very original. Blessings

Last bottle of vodka? and only a tot left? What a catastrophe! Sorry - a tot will not do it at all. I would need a very arge vodka with just a rumour of tonic
You can keep your tiddly tot for an elderly person - not me
