What is your opinion about the evolution of Bastian Schweinsteiger?

I think he has become one of the best players in the world. The fact that Louis van Gaal has put him in the center of the midfield, and he doesn't play in the wings anymore. I think that he is one of the best in this position, his qualities resemble to Xavi Hernandez a lot. He plays many passes during a game, has a good shot and makes lots of interceptions. He has become more calm, he is not so nervous anymore. I remember that at Euro 2008 he was sent off against Croatia for a stupidity and since then he has handled his nerves because he promised to the German chancellor Angela Merkel that he won't do this stupid things anymore. I think he is totally different from the young Schweini he once was. He is a key player both in Bayern and in the German national team, he is practically untouchable. So what do you think about Schweinsteiger? Do you consider him a quality player as well?

He is getting better but I don't he has reached Xavi state yet. No doubt he is good but I would not consider him as a great, not now at least. I think the absence of Ballack is the catalyst for him to grow as a player. No longer is he under the shadow of the former captain.

I think the main factor of his evolution is the fact that van Gaal has put him in the center of the midfield, where he feels much better than in the wings. He is not a very quick player and that is why he couldn't become a great player playing there. He has scored more goals when he played on the wings, but he says that he feels better in the center of the midfield where he can have much more contacts with the ball and can make a bigger influence on his teams playing. He scores every now and then, especially from distance, but this is not his main task during a game. He has to make a good connection between defense and offense and I think he is quite good at this. Maybe the absence of Ballack was a catalyst for him, but I think they could do better games side by side, because I consider Ballack a better playen than Khedira.

He has been touted as the next big thing from the beginning. His showing in the 2006 world cup under Klinsmann really put him on the world map. He scores fantastic long range goals and is very industrious in the mid field. But somehow in the big games against big teams, he simply does not seem to be very effective. And example is the final of the Champions League last year against Inter Milan. He was one of the players who looked ineffective on the night. So not sure if he has evolved into one of the best players in the world just yet!! Cheers! Ram

And I can get you an example which proves that he is great. The game againsta Argentina in the World Cup. He was brilliant in that game and he had many other good games as well. Of course, Xavi has accomplished much more in his career and he is surely better than Schweinsteiger, but he is on the path of becoming a player with great performances. Even Mourinho said about him that he is one of the best. I hope he will become the best, but he will stay all his career at Bayern, the club which formed him as a player.
