Hi mylotters! Can you give me some tips how I can improve my typing sped? I already tried some typing software but the problem is that, it didn't seem to work. My fingers easily got tired:( I succeeded in improving my speed a little(I can now type 30 wpm, if you could call that improvement at all)but the problem was that my fingers are still not positioned in the right keys so I still need to look at the keyboard instead of the monitor. I really need to improve my typing speed so please, your suggestions will be much appreciated. :)

yup. i can give you few suggestions. one is your keyboard. you may get yourself an A-type keyboard so that you won't be having hard time clipping your arms to your side like the typical old-school typist. then, consider getting a free version of typing tutorial. you have to start from the basics. position your fingers on the right spots asdf and jkl; and follow typing strictly with the right finger to the right keys. then you may want to play on typing the same story all the time you practice so you can get used to the words and letters in the beginning. you can practice on this sentence "the quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dogs" combine capitalisation and small letters as well. this sentence includes all the letters of the alphabet. good luck.

I think 30 words per min is a very good speed and you are doing well. But if you need to get your hand on the keyboard then you can try typing in the dark when you don't have an option of looking at the keyboard .. it is said that our other senses become more active when one of the senses is not able to do its job.

Although sometimes the typing software can be fun or interesting, however, I don't think you can really improve your typing speed. The best way is to chat online. I found that if you can type words to "chat" with others, as time goes by, you will make a big progress in typing. I love China

If you work around computers all day, you want to type as quickly as you possibly can. It doesn’t matter how fast a typist you are now, there is always room for improvement. If you truly want to make yourself more efficient in the workplace, you will take steps to improve your typing speed. If you already know how to type, you can practice by typing things in repetition. Type passages from books to get a start. Type business letters to improve your speed in typing. There are hundreds of ways that you can improve your typing speed by simply practicing. Your speed will improve if you are truly intent on doing so. If you really want to improve your typing speed, start going to chat boards. You often have to be able to read and type quickly in order to keep up with what is going on around you. It may be difficult for you at first, but once you get the hang of it, you will be surprised how much your typing speed picks up.

Well, you see, this is based on my experience on how did I start typing real fast. First have to kind of semi-memorize where the letters are, it does not matter if you only know where half of them are, basically just focus on the letters ASDF and JKL. What I do is, Im always trying to picture the keyboard on my head and when I have a clear picture of it, I started tapping down the letters I wanna press, without actually looking at the keyboard, I can go up to 90WPM if im not lazy and really concentrating, if not, I can go around 40-60WPM, although the real problem is some of my fingers are not positioned on where they should be :D, it doesnt matter to me though ;D

Practice makes perfect. You just have to practice everyday, then you'll see that you'll get faster each day. You can browse the net site where they offer free software on typing. God bless on your study in typing. :-)

You need to make sure that your wrists are not bent, as someone else has already suggested, and that you practice. If the software you are using is not helping you, try something else...and keep at it. You also need to stop looking at the keyboard as you type because that is a bad habit and a hard one to break if you do it for too long. You can increase your speed over time if you do it the right way.

Try putting a towel rolled up or a foam something under your wrists or putting the little things up on your keyboard if it has them. If your fingers are hurting your hands aren't positioned right. And Relax. don't worry about speed as much as accuracy.

Hi mariacecilia13, You shouldn't expect to improve your typing speed overnight. It is a long process and only by exercising more and more you will get the expected result. You said your fingers got tired. This means you don't have a proper position while working at your computer. Make sure your forearms are resting on the table, only your palms and fingers are in the air. The secret to type faster is to hit the keys without looking at the keyboard. That's why you have to exercise until your fingers go to the right key instantly. I used Mavis Beacon to learn how to type faster. Not only it helped me to learn the position of the keys and what is the right way to use my hands, but I also had fun, as it has some funny games that helps you improve your typing speed. Here's a link to an article that shows you some ways to improve your typing speed online: http://news.yahoo.com/s/mashable/20101007/tc_mashable/5_free_ways_to_improve_your_typing_skills_online;_ylt=A0oG7otdfMpMkC0BR1gPxQt.;_ylu=X3oDMTEyOWVzM2h0BHNlYwNzcgRwb3MDMTgEY29sbwNhYzIEdnRpZAMEbANXUzE-

Increasing typing speed is not something that you can do in one day or even in one week. Your typing speed is better than so many others. Using a typing tutor application is always the best option. No doubt, it seems to be boring and irritating when you start practicing on the typing tutor application. However, gradually in a few months, you will realize that your typing speed has increased a lot. You may also try playing games in the typing tutor application and make sure that you never look at the keyboard while practicing typing.
