Do you think "Branded" goods are "Good Quality" and "Cheap" goods won't "Last"

I have come across many people that claims that they buy branded products because they last longer and have better quality. Do you agree that only expensive & branded products are good quality. I personally don't think so as i have bought some products that are not branded but can last quite a long time. For example my Reebok sport jogging shoes don't even last for 6 months but i bought Eepro brand which is far cheaper (1/6 of Reebok price) and it lasts for years. Anyway, generally most branded products do use better quality material during manufacturing but some cheap brands do have good materials too. I think it is important to test out the quality of the material instead of the brand attached to it when purchasing any goods/products. Do you agree on this?

No, that's not always the case. Yeah, branded products do use a good quality of material but that's not the only thing you are paying you are also paying for their name/trademark. That's why it costs much expensive than other brands with no names even though they may also have the same quality.

Actually some of the products did came from the same factory, only thing is the brand is different :p Some people really pay lots of money for branded goods.

I don't think that's true. I've bought some things (such as clothing, for example, or shoes) that weren't branded and they lasted for a long time, whereas other branded products just fell apart after not too long. But, I've had the opposite happen as well, so I can't really generalise... I guess it depends on the brand and on which type of product it is.

Thanks. I do think similar things happened to me :p Furthermore, for branded electronic goods, repair cost is usually much higher than non-branded too.

In most cases, it is not the material which is of poor quality, but the way it has been manufactured. Most of the cost goes into assembling the product. And you don't always pay big money for the brand. You pay ridiculous money for Reebok. And you usually pay ridiculous money for fashion names, wether it is shoes, clothes or perfum and cosmetics. But when it comes to brand names for appliances, it becomes more about reliability than anything else. And my experience with tools and appliances, is that you get what you pay for. If you are buying something that you don't plan to use very often, it might be worth looking at the cheaper one. But if you intent of using it a lot, it is well worth buying the expensive one. Because the expensive one will last twice as long. You have to go from the principle that nothing is free. And if someone can make the same thing for half the price, either there is something wrong with it, or the other guy is ripping you off. But it is very unlikely that you will get rip off with appliances and tools because it is a very competitive market. So cheap means just that. It will break down.

Yes. I do agree that for most appliances, brands does matter as they undergo different quality inspection and has proper procedure to assemble the product. I once bought a soldering tool made in china where the first time i tried to use it, it exploded and were not usable at all. I bought another Japanese brand soldering set and it lasts for years without problem. Same goes to electrical appliances such as fridge, water heater etc... usually branded ones do last twice as long as the not branded ones. Thanks.

No not necessarily. I believe in good quality if after my examination I feel it is good quality :) I do not take the brand's name for it. But for some of the things for which I cannot do a regular check up, I will go with a brand that I have used before and trust. I think that is basic human nature and that is why companies spend so much on brand building. Cheers! Ram

Yes. Sometimes branded products really have better quality then the non-branded. Such items includes electronic items such as phones etc. Imitation products usually has poor quality and less features. I think that is because popular brands goes through stringent quality control whereas imitation don't. Anyway, there are also some products that are actually from the same factory but they bring out illegally.

There are many good quality brand names and generic names as well. there are also cheap products of the same. We generally get what we pay for. Sometimes we can get pleasantly surprised.

Sometimes it do depends on luck that the items we buy is of good quality. Similar products may have different defects and if you are unlucky, you'll even end up with defective units even when you go for branded items. Anyway, non-branded items might also be of good quality. 3 years back i installed a Taiwanese brand two way car alarm which is many times cheaper than branded ones. It has auto start feature and many other features branded system has and for as long as i am using it, it has no problem at all, and the price is only 1/4 of branded ones.

You are correct for certain case, especially those items that need high quality control. However, currently most products are manufactured from china and usually there are two batch of those products. Ones that they really manufacture for the branded company. But there are also those that are smuggled out. Besides, there are also many companies that imitate product from those branded companies and often their product is almost as good as the branded ones but with a fraction of the costs. However, sometimes one might still prefer to go for branded ones as it will show your status. For me, i only go for quality and not the brand. If i found good review for a cheaper brand, i would definitely try it out.

i would say yes. brand goes with the quality and promise to be used and enjoyed for a longer time that the cheaper low quality products. even sometimes, branded but suddenly it became very cheap, i've had one electronic device before and it was cheap. but i didn't enjoy it even for a year. it lasted only for few weeks and it stopped working. so a bit of sacrifice with expenditure of the right choice of needs (not wants).

I do agree that sometimes cheap stuff couldn't last long. This especially is true for small electronic items from china etc. However, if you know how to choose and find a good manufacturer, their goods may be many times cheaper and the quality is as good if not better than those branded items.

I remember this story from many years ago. It was about two friends, one of which was the owner of a company. He purchased a Rolex watch. If you do not know, a Rolex is one of the most expensive watches around. Many made out of 24k gold, others with diamonds, some with pearls and rubies. They are highly expensive brand name watches. After receiving his watch, he found that every week he had to adjust the time. The watch did not keep good time. He called into the Rolex company support, and was told "A Rolex watch is not meant for time, it's meant as Jewelry". In other words, his thousands of dollars watch wasn't supposed to keep good time. It was just supposed to look good. The owners friend was one of my teachers in school. Branded does not automatically mean anything. Sometimes a brand will be garbage, but because it's a well known brand, people buy it. Equally, off-brand stuff can sometimes be higher quality than the name-brand stuff. It all depends.

We usually associate branded goods with quality. Oftentimes, it follows that items you pay a high price for live longer than cheap goods. However, there are also cheap items that last longer.

I think there would be different quality for all class of items. As for me, i would rather go for the top rank product of non-branded items than low rank branded items. Many times, you will get better features for a fraction of the cost and it last longer than low end branded items.

Well I believe "Branded" goods or the popular ones should ne high quality of most people but them don't you think? Though some other ccompanies do have good quality outfits for a lower price. I know what you mean though I have had many cloths that have broken or torn apart while others lasted for a few years. Lastly I second your opnion on the testing of material but I think they already do that.

Sometimes, we do need to check on quality instead of brands. Branded clothings might not necessary be good in quality, sometimes it's the design that costs. I can see some branded clothings will only thin cloths but the price is even more expensive that a suit. However, it depends on your budget. If you have lots of money and don't have time to look into quality yourself. Maybe the brand do give you an idea that it might be a better quality item.

I think there are branded products that are of good quality but there are also some branded products that are not of very good quality, and cheap items are of very different kinds of qualities as well. So it really depends on so much more than on the brand.

That's why sometimes we must change the perception that branded goods may last twice longer than those cheap stuffs therefore better go for branded items. This is true for some cases but not all stuffs are like that. Some items might be branded and yet get spoil in a short time. It sometimes depends on your luck. However due to strict quality control on branded stuffs and with a better warranty, sometimes people do prefer to buy branded stuffs than those cheap items without warranty. Anyway, it all depends on your budget. As for me, i will look for review from the internet before purchasing any items, especially when i try to look for alternatives from those branded ones.

In some cases with some items I believe quality is the way to go but for other cheap works just as well and just as long. For example, I love dirt bikes, 3 wheelers and skidoo's and I would never buy a chinese knock off because they never last past a year where I have a machine made by from Honda for 1982 that runs and drives like a dream and has since new. I would buy a cheap cd player or something though because that to me is no real big deal even if it does break.

It is true that certain things can last really long. However, it is usually those which are manufactured quite some time ago. Previously many manufacturer's do build things that last, however, since now they focus on resale, therefore, many manufacturer no longer produce items that can last a lifetime, instead it usually has a life span in which after that, the item would get spoil and you would have to buy a new one so that they continue to make profit.

Yeah, I agree with you, most of the branded product donot lost for long time as compare to other non branded products. Different products only earn money due to their names, instead of product, their names sells, and people only bought those things due to their names, other wise other non branded things are very good than those. But I think during shopping or in market, it is recommended dont go to brand name, first decide what you want to buy then see that thing in different brands and non brands, then compare them with each other and buy that which you think is good for you. I dont prefer brands but the quality...:)

Yes. I do agree quality is much more important than the brand itself. Usually i'll look for stuffs for a cheaper range, then only compare with branded ones. If price is almost the same, only i'll consider the branded ones, else i'll go for the cheaper ones. Thanks.

No I do not think that branded goods are good quality. In fact quite often they are made by the same people who make the cheap ones. All made in china but one has a brand and one does not. Not all branded goods are like this but many are. I buy goods based on the quality I can get for the price I can afford. I do not care what the name is.

no, a lot of the time i prefer the cheap branded items to the large company ones, with the exception of a few things

Hi Asxenon! Nice topic you got there. For a long time now I've been thinking if I will buy a branded sun glass or a non branded one. The branded was is just way to expensive that is why I'm having 2nd thoughts. With that price I can buy a whole lot of other things. Lol. My friend told me to just buy the non branded one cause she said even if it gets lost it won't hurt as much, haha... Come to think of it, all I wanted is it's style. Maybe I can find a non branded one with the same style.

No, not always . Sometimes branded goods are costly, just for their name when they can be least different form a cheaper local brand. Well, but, we wouldn't know it until we have used it. I prefer cheaper items when they satisfy their purpose. I look to branded items, when the cheap alternatives don't work. Eg: I like branded mobiles. I don't buy branded pens.

We pay for quality, but that does not mean it's supposed to last us long depending on our usage. There are times we learnt a lesson from the branded stuffs we owned and so we are extra careful when we buy a similiar thing the next time round. I'm sure we are all aware of that and so we share experiences. Not all branded stuffs are of good quality but not all cheap stuffs are lousy too. Everything depends on how we use it and take care of it.

Yes, I agree on that. When I shop, it would really take me long because I make sure that the things I choose and buy have the good quality, whether they are branded or not. The common mistake among us is that, we think that if the product is branded, then it's good and if not then it's no good. So, no matter how expensive it is, we don't care for as long as it's branded. We'll, I can't also blame others for choosing branded products, especially for busy people having hard time to have the luxury time to shop, because usually, not branded products are not in good quality. But, if you have enough time to do shopping, explore things. It's still better to check first the quality before buying.
