Ok before anyone says something like Google it or along those lines I have already. I just hoping someone here can tell me how to do this in plain simple english. About a month back my desktop PC which I have had for 5 years now decided it wasn't going to turn back on. It has been like this for years and after pushing the power button a few hundred times it would come on eventually but not now. All the lights are on and you can hear the dvd drive working but its like the computer won't boot to the windows program. The screen just stays black. Nothing happened like a surge or anything like that its just old and I would hate to get rid of it because its one one the fastest computers I have ever used. Its fifty times better then this laptop I bought brand new 3 weeks ago and this has more ram and everything. Anyways I got the problem narrowed down to the motherboard and heard it will be quite expensive to get this replace because of the age and because it is a tiny HP desktop computer. So how do I get my information off the hard drive? I know I have to remove it but can it be plugged into any working computer to get the files? Is there a adapter I can buy to plug into my usb port and retrieve the information? Any idea's would be great!

If you're not going to get a HP tech to do it, then the easiest way I would say is: 1. Find an anti-static bag. You can buy one from a computer store. 2. Touch any piece of metal to dislodge any static your body might have. Now, unscrew your computer's side, and look for the harddisk. 3. Look for the cables attached to the harddisk. Remove those first. Now unscrew and remove the harddisk. 4. Put harddisk into the static bag and take it to the computer store. Ask them for an external casing for your drive. 5. Bring it home, plug it like a USB cable, and welcome to your old drive. Bear in mind the above should be done with the computer completely disconnected from the power point AND only if you're not sure if your drive is an IDE or SATA drive. I hope this helps!

Well simply take out the harddisk and put into a external casing there you can plug into another Computer to retrive all the files inside.
