At a University class a teacher said us that the most important thing for employees in the world is to be acknowledged and the salary is only on the fourth place in the hierarchy. Everybody was amazed by that, but the teacher said that this statement is based on research. What is your opinion about this? Do you agree with this research?

Its the same for most places, if your acknowledged and appreciated at work then you don't mind so much about the wage aslong as you can live on it in my opinion. I do think certain jobs should be higher salary than they are though, like those who aren't respected and do more for their jobs than those who get paid more and do alot less.

I think to a point you're right but I do think positive behaviour should be pointed out around staff as it gives more of increase to your work ethnic. I personally find it sparks me into doing more than a 100% but everyone is different. I don't agree with management causing a scene in public though, that isn't what should be done but from my experience it is.

Do you think that if you are praised many times in front of your colleagues they will start being envious and hate you? that would lead to make your life a living hell and want you out of the company? or I am a bit paranoiac? Because the first lesson we have learned at management course is: Always praise in public and always criticize in private. In my opinion both should be done in private. What do you think?

The most important thing for me would be the type of job. It has to be the type which I had been trained for and enjoy working. If I am stuck in a type of job I just don't enjoy, that would make me very unhappy. Salary of course comes next to the type of job.

I can empathize with you, I just hate doing stuff that I don't like but I have to. I also think that the financial appreciation is more important than the praising in public.

Of course recognition is important not only at the workplace, but everywhere for one's ego and self-image.But the salary should be reasonable enough in this materialistic world, for "keeping up with the Joneses",etc, after taking care of the basics, namely, food, clothes and shelter.

I think I am a person who doesn't like to be praised in public, I would satisfy with a congratulation in private from my boss. I think if you are praised too much in front of your colleagues it will do more bad than good, because the other will be envious towards you and they will start working against you. Maybe I am paranoiac, but I think that this would happen. So it is better to be acknowledged in private and given a material motivation.
