WriteItNow4 is a novel writing software continuously being developd by Ravenshead Services Ltd. The link to its website is www.ravensheadservices.com. The software is not free, but a person can download it and use it with limitations, but without any time limit. I came across WriteItBow 3 some time last year. I was impressed with the available features. My budget was limited, so I did not purchase the licence. About two weeks ago I had sufficient funds in my PayPal account, and purchased the lifetime licence for WriteItNow 4. Likes Among the things I like about this software is ease of use, export to RTF, web, or e-book, and customisation of personal dictionary. The menu is easy to understand, and the software is easy to use, so much so that my 11 year old daughter wrote a story, still incomplete, of more than 1,200 words in less than 5 hours. It may not sound like a big feat, but consider the following. One, many 17 year old students, and a big proportion of local undergraduates find it difficult to write something original in less than 500 words. Two, the menu is in English. She partly followed what I did. The export facility makes it easier to publish any written work on the Internet, or to submit a manuscript to a publisher. It comes with US, CA, and GB English dictionaries. A user can add words to User dictionary. In my case I copied en_GB, and renamed the copy to en_MY to have a Malaysian English dictionary. I created another one for the Malay language. Weakness The software is not without weaknesses. For example the program needs to be restarted if the default or main dictionary is changed. Nevertheless I think it is better than a few other software that I have used. Someone looking for a writing software should give WriteItNow a thorough test run. Those with older computers or OS, like Windows 98, should use version 3. The licence purchased allows the user to have it installed on 6 computers. By the way it cab also be used for some serious writing.

A software that I will never use ^-^ I write because I love writing: if a program does it for me, then where are the fun? I know it can be usefol for people who want help in writing, but it's not for me. I also enjoy rereading, proofreading and correcting whatever I'm writing: a simple word processor is more than enough, for my tastes.

It does not do grammar checking. I guess we have different approaches to life. In my case I like the fact that it helps a lot in organising the chapters and scenes. It is easier to jump from one chapter or scene to another. In short, there is a greater productivity. Not only that it helps in the flow of ideas, and extra notes can easily be made and referred back to. I have used word processors before, and they include Word and PageMaker. Working smart is my aim, and if a software can help me to achieve this goal while writing then I will use it.
