Feels like a write up to me

The last time I worked one of the managers came to me while I was counting down and said I did this or that transaction ok'd by such and such manager BUT I should of checked on weather the "coupon" was still valid in our system. Now this is the first I've heard of this "checking" unless the customer wanted to know why it wasn't scanning wich ment they did a return and the coupon was invalid. Now I was honoring an exp'd coupon wich most managers will honor. I guess loss prevention basically recorded my transaction & maybe my conversation w/ the manager approving. But you know the manager said nothing about verifying the coupon. I work part time for minimum wage people, I hardly know whats going on, nor all the policies as I'm hardly there. So how can everyone possibly be on the same page? And they have the policy they have w/ customers to honor things out of courtesy ect. I was told this was being mentioned as a training lesson of sorts, I dunno about you but anytime you have to sign anything it's a write up. However write-up's are typically done with more than one manager & in private not on the sales floor infront of a co-worker KWIM? We do have to sign a sheet we did certain computer tutorial training as well so I dunno. The manager assured me it wasn't a write up and the other supervisor for my area (also a part time employee as 90% are) said "don't worry about it I have 3! compared to your 1"
What do you think? I was so upset over it as I'm very tenderhearted I was about in tears.
All I could think about is loosing my lil job, it's what's keeping us out of bankruptcy KWIM? The manager was like, no biggie nothing to get upset about but then I explained with my hubby's schedule and having small kids it's almost impossible for me to find a job anywhere so I don't have to pay daycare (or a job that I could make a profit working full time + afford daycare starting @ the bottom). So I have to do my best to make this work, not screw up, and last there until my DS is old enough for school full time in 3 LONG years. All I can do is pray & do my best.

I an see how upset you are. But yuu did not do anything horrendous. It was just a mistake. I do know full well, the feeling of being scared in case our job.
I am in the same position and only last week the brother of our Prime Minister to be threatened to sue me. It was not nice at all and I am having to be very careful not to make an error on this one.
It is hard not to worry when we live in fear of losing a job. Concentrate on all the things that you are doing well at your job and you will be okay. Blessings dear friend.

I know I didn't do anything horrendous but if feels like it when you had to sign something. Though she even showed me the folder of people she needs to pester about some things and it's a good half inch thick but who knows. I'll have to ask another person who's in charge of my area if I should worry or not. Hubby didn't say anything about it so I dunno that he's too concerned.
I'd be definiatly worried in your shoes as well. Can't afford to be sued that's for sure nor the stress that goes along with it. Do your best to steer clear of this potential problem for sure. ((hugs))
I will try to focus on the good. But it seems once I do one thing wrong I worry what else am I going to do wrong. Shoot there's a new girl for the holidays, others have said that she can barely make change & needs alot of help yet she's on a register. *shaking head*

I would not get too worried about it. Sounds like a very minor offense and the managers are told to speak to anyone who makes such mistakes. They probably just need to cover their own butts.. so that if you're a repeat offender they can show proof that they have spoken to you about the issue on previous occasions. I know from hubby's job that it takes lots and lots of documentation to fire someone, or else they can sue the company or go for unemployment (which the company must pay).
When I worked as a cashier in retail I'd been written up a few times for my drawer being a bit over or under. One time it was as much as $20.. I think it was over by $20. Yikes! Well I did not get fired.. it was just policy to write up cashiers if their drawer was off by more than a few cents.

Sadly it's hard to be a repeat offender when you didn't know you were offending the first time around.
There are so many people that share a drawer in any given day you'd have to write everyone up who was on the drawer wich wouldn't be fair. But I'm sure every drawer is under survalence so they'd just have to watch the film to see why the drawer was off a significant amount.
The only time my drawer was off consistantly was at a previous job where there was a full time cashier who'd make change in my drawer prior to getting there as I worked 2nd shift. Eventually they did the math and found that her number was in my register for a no sale every time I was off & it was always off $20 every night when I counted down because of her. Then they made the mistake of hiring her "friend" and she pulled a few fast ones as well.

I would have written a comment on there, "I had a manager approve it. If it were a problem, they should have refused it and told me then and there not to ask on expired coupons." That puts it right back on the company...

Ah so you are like me takes a bit to come up with a snazzy reply, if I can come up with one. The more I hash it out in my head and with other people I think of other replies beyond I need to keep my job and I don't need any marks in my file, I can't afford not to work here... seriously I'm so tenderhearted I was in tears as our finances are not the best with job w/o it we'd be beyond deep doo=doo.

That really doesn't sound fair, and I am sorry that happened to you. I use to work retail way back when and I remember getting a write up for my drawer being like 25 cents over. I was shocked when my manager said "it is no big deal, don't worry about it" I thought, heck yeah, I am going to worry about it. I don't like to have any write ups if I can help it. She kept trying to tell me I wouldn't be fired or anything like that, which I wasn't, but I guess I am the type of person that I like to do things right and don't like to have a crappy work record. I would do exactly what you did...I would worry about my job as well. I think people take their jobs for granted and don't realize sometimes how devestating being unemployed is. I hope all works out for you.

EXACTLY! I don't like to have anything bad on my record there even a minor infraction. Verbal over something minute fine... but nothing written KWIM? Like there was a lady who had an exchange and she thought that the exchange was way different than what she had she went in back and did it back there when I could of done it for her but the customer didn't give me the chance to see what she had before she hobbled away on her crutches. I figured no biggie that's part of what service desk does KWIM?
It's not my second job it's my only job, most of the others have my job as their second job. I don't have any job to fall back on they do.

I know how you feel about this. However, if it was one little thing, then I wouldn't worry about it too much. I know when I was working outside the house I would get my little feelings hurt all the time. I worked in a hospital with a lot of patients that were pretty much helpless and my co-workers didn't want to work as a team the majority of the time. I eventually ended up leaving the job due to circumstances that weren't related to my co-workers.

So I guess your former co-workers needed to hear about that lil dealie there's no "I" in Team? I hope you didn't hurt yourself. As I know my SIL was a CNA for several years and they'd do things incorrectly because they had so many people to take care of they could not always wait for someone to be free to assist them in lifts ect.
I spoke with a long time employee tonight and she said that she'd never heard of the procedure I was "corrected" on. She also said she didn't think it was a write up. It was funny from me asking her honest opinion that she said she learned something new & that they need to get their act together with the policies and training wich she said is a problem.

Oh Snuggles I am so sorry you are going through this. What an awful shame, I bet you are the hardest most caring and diligent employee they have.
Unfortunate that you cannot make more money as you are truly a caring person. I will pray alongside with you as we all know that every little bit helps. God Bless you and your family.

I try. But I'm not the most diligent when it comes to soliciting customers. If they say no I'm not going to keep badgering them though one of their full timers is very persistant and I've heard a few people say they refuse to go in her line because of it. You can ask or suggest but you can't make people do what they don't want to especially when it comes to their finances. I learned tat with my last job but that didn't stop my boss at the time from writing me up because someone moved their money from us to elsewhere. Their money their choice & with times being what they are it's harder to persuade people.

i'm surprised the coupon bar code doesn't kick back if it's expired?
i wouldn't worry overmuch.if they fire you for that, that's beyond petty.
coupons aren't worth that much.i think they'd be more liable to bill you if they were that sore about it.

Yes it will kick it back as expd. However the customers can ask if we could honor it still and I then have to ask a manager to approve or deny it.
My last job they got me on something petty, and then just made life a hell over little petty things even thigns others confessed to doing in error I got in trouble for.

I don't understand how you can honor an expired coupon--isn't it up to management to delete or cancel the coupon in the database so that it won't be honored?! Sounds to me like you're being punished for their laziness and shortcomings!
Don't take it so hard. Keep an eye out for better jobs at more pay. I know it's difficult now--heck, I haven't worked for 2 years!--but maybe you'll come across a better one that's more worker friendly!

I can take the coupon as a dollar mark down on the transaction if the manager says I can honor it. It's their coupon, not a manufacturers. I had told her that I thought the managers should ask you if you checked to see if the coupon still had value before approving the markdown despite it being expired or just plain say we can't accept it because they don't scan.
I look once in while but it's hard to find anywhere that will accomodate a schedule like my husbands wich is the problem. Next to the fact that anything flexiable will be either retail or fast food. Neither are easy to come by with opening nor when you tell them your availability they don't call. DH won't let me apply to his job because I can't avoid being at the end of the line wich I hate & have a hard time keeping up with the machine.

I am also a very sensitive person. I will start crying really fast over something that may not even be all that much worth crying over. I think I'd be basically in tears though I'd probably be a bit upset as well. I see you still have that job and so I guess the write up wasn't as bad as you thought. Though I don't understand why the write up yet "not a writeup" either. It clearly seemeed like a write up to me. Anything you have to sign etc, that'd be a writeup. Though the other person getting three? you think they'd be gone by now!
