School Fundraisers

Do schools around the nation decide on this particular time frame to start pushing for fun raisers? I have no kids but I've already been approached by two kids, from different school districts, to participate in their school fundraisers.
I remember when I was in school and they would have us do these fundraisers, sell cookie dough, candy, gourmet lollipos (I use to LOVE those), glassware and other things. Since I was a shy person, I would just give the papers to my mom who would take them to work and sell whatever she could to her coworkers.
Do you remember when you had to do school fundraisers? What were your tactics?

We didn't have many fundraisers when I was in school but the best tactic I used was to have my parents take the material to work with them and get orders from their coworkers. Since they both worked with a lot of people I usually made out pretty good with very little effort on my part.
