Ever since I am in my primary years of studying, I do not have any interest with numbers. Although mom gives time for me to study numbers, she loved to teach me more of reading and writing. When I was already in high school, I can still remember how I cried when I got a zero score on mathematics and how I cursed the subject and all of the mathematicians. How I wish numbers were not invented at all. When I stepped on college, I still have a math subject even though my major is not that subject. Well, as I expected I got low grades again. As of now, I am already an English teacher, I still do math in my work. My boyfriend laughs at me whenever I complained him about math and he said that I hate math but I am doing math in my every day life. He wants me to love Math becuase it is a necessity just like English. As of now, no matter how I hate Math, I am doing the best to love it. How about you? Is there a particular subject you hate but then you have no choice but to study it?

Oh, I feel you. I hate math too. I am awful at it. No matter what, I can't seem to grasp the concept of it. I know that it's important and that I will use it in the future but I suck at it, to be blunt. Haha. I want to be a journalist so I am hoping that because of this I won't have to use math as much (no grading papers! lol). But yeah, I can definitely relate. I am just no good at math.

hi jypsyjulia, It seems math is a parcel of our life. To be honest, I envy the mathematicians because of their skills in numbers. However, I know that we all have talents. Every time I feel down because of Math, I just think that even I am not good at it, I am still lucky because I am not bad in English. I just think that English is just as important as Math. It just happens that I am not blessed in Arithmetic.

Denifitely, math is already part of our lives. Whether we like it our not, we have to deal with it, from its simplest form to the complicated ones, especially at school. Personally, I'm also not that good with this subject. But I've learned to like because i've realized that even in my health-related profession, math is undeniably useful.

Hello, The true reason for your hatred for mathematics is rather psychological one. May be you've associated a bitter experience with mathematics. Human mind does that thing all the time. For example a person may grow a fear of a particular subject just because he hated the teacher who used to teach it in his high school. The association of the personality of the teacher with the subject is made almost unconsciously and the mind works on it to produce more fear. The stronger the association is the more intimidating the subject appears. Sometimes you don't even remember of having made any such association, but it was done subtly by your mind, so the effect still remains. A person who is intelligent and motivated can do good in maths as well as arts, equally. I know this sounds odd, but it's true. Now in order to regain the motivation of this subject you must first identify your purpose for studying it. Read http://socyberty.com/education/how-to-stay-motivated-in-your-study/ to learn to identify this purpose. A purpose is really important because you really need to figure out the good things that you can achieve if you study a certain subject. Then there is another thing, the love of numbers. To make love with the numbers you need to learn a few tricks to do quick calculations. Please read http://www.bukisa.com/articles/353373_quick-multiplication-tricks for an example. The more you apply these strategies in your regular math problems the more interesting mathematics become to you. You better get some good books on these techniques, better known as Vedic Mathematics. Read them and apply them in your calculations whenever you can. Try to face a problem even if it scares you. Unless you face it the phobia will not let go of you. But it's just the first time. Once you prepare the face it, the fear goes away. So there is always a reward beyond every fear. Stay motivated. If you are stuck with something try to get to it's roots even if that means going through all the books you've already read in previous semesters. Just do whatever is necessary to clear the concept. Take all the time you need, but don't be stressed. Just move with a relaxed and easy pace. Make it comfortable for you. Who knows, there may be a hidden genius in you. Thanks. God bless you.

hi getsbiswa, Your post is very inspirational. When I was in elementary, there is a Math teacher that is not smiling and always angry. I do not like him and up to now, I am still scared of him. He is really very strict and always shouting. I think the root cause of my attitudes toward math is because of what I experienced on him. I visited your articles and they are very interesting. It seems that you are a very good writer too.

What can be learned can also be unlearned. If your mind has associated something, your mind can also dissociate them with your slight help. You must come up with strong reasons against this irrational fear. You have to understand that your mind is actually trying to associate two completely unrelated factors. By trying to overlapping these non overlapping things your mind is playing a trick on you. Now you shouldn't let your mind go against you by doing something like that, should you? I think you've already read my articles on healthy study habits. I am writing another article on how to develop such study habits where I will write about both the learning and the unlearning process. Once I publish this article I will give the link in my myLot profile. So don't forget to check it out. You'll do good in not only mathematics but as well as in English, because once you're mature enough you will understand that they have a huge overlapping region. Neither of them can survive without the other, they are so deeply intertwined.

Earlier I was also thinking like this.I hate mathematics than any other subject. Also I was very poor in mathematics. But when I was doing mysecondary course I have changed my thoughts concerning about Mathematics. For this I am cery indebted to Sir Alnert Einstein for his words "Mathematics is the center science of Science".Since I was very much fond of Physics at that time,I understood that without Matha I can't do anything. From then onwards I started loving mathematics.I used to solve the math problems in the form of riddles. You also try this,I'm sure you will start loving math....

Math is something that I have always had the most strange relationship in the entire world for. There are times where I am more than fine with math. Granted it can be tedious but I have no major problems with doing math. It is not the easiest thing in the world, but it is more tedious than hard. However, at least I understand it. I don't have to like something, just understand it for me to do well. However, there are times where I really struggle with math. I tend to not get anything, even it is explained to me a hundred times. There are just days where I am not doing it. Math is important to life but I tend to avoid doing it whenever possible. That or at least have a calculator in hand ready to go when the time comes. I am proud however when I do excel. I think getting a good grade in College Algebra was my crowning moment of life.

Hello!!! I hate mathematics also but i know why and when that hatred started. Well, now i have realized that everything on this earth can be associated and calculated with numbers. We all love math then f we realized earlier how math works on money world!.For money s math.. math is number and number is money.

I hated maths when I'm in Primary School. No matter how hard I tried, I ended up getting 45~55/100. So, there's once I gave up on it and got 20~30+/100 back... X.X And when I went to secondary school, I got my interest back (somehow, my brain started to work harder) and scored a B grade for the national exam. Then, I hated social studies in secondary school... too much information to remember!! It killed many of my brain cells XD HAHA! Yes, do your best to love maths! :) I had fun with my friendly teachers which made me enjoyed the subject. ^^

I never liked science. I had to force myself to take an interest in it. I got good grades in my science classes, but I had to put an effort into getting them. All my other subjects were easy for me, but science was something I really had to study in order to do well. As for math, I hated algebra. I hated algebra A LOT!

hi annie! i love math.i love all subjects in school.as for math i love it so much but i found it was beginning harder and harder when i was in college.but i will still give my best to master it.the only thing i hate about math is how the way the teacher taught us.it is better if they teach us more in practical way, why we use that formula and how the formula solve the problem in our daily life not just using the variables only..they somewhat focusing more on the theories which made me feel bored than the problem solving questions which i think make things more clearer.but back to my school i really love the time spent to do my math exercises.even if it really give me headache but it was so challenging that gave me satisfaction the time i got the right answers for math questions.

hi cthanum, I also experienced that. Whenever I get the correct answers on our math subject, I feel the interest but once I can no longer to solve a particular problem, I feel the interest is no longer there.

Math, i often say ilove math, so it could love me too because i honestly suck at it...math makes my life miserable from highschool to college, but i have to graduate so I really tried everything to just pass my algebra class, i sit infront of the class ask a lot of questions while most of my classmates are accounting students who doesn't need an explanation as to how to find the x and y...

We have the same feeling about Math. I also hate numbers, computations, equations, among others. At first, it was not really that bad. I mean memorizing numbers, adding and subtracting small numbers. But as the topics became more complicated, I wished I didn't have to study Math. I had higher grades in other subjects like Science even in P.E. or physical education when I'm not really that good at sports. 0_0 I didn't fail my Math subject though. Well, I'm quite opposite with my dad. He's really good in Math, I think it's his favorite subject. I used to ask him for help with my assignments and it's like he knows everything or almost. I wished I was like him so I wouldn't hate Math since we all deal with it everyday. =)

woo.. IN China people always say some words like this :no hate ,no love. when it comes to maths ,i think of my experience in shcool days in the past . i can remember that those days i always received a falling grade ,first i paid no attention ,afterwards i had to gain high marks in maths in order to enter NO one High school ,it's when i knew that i should show respect for maths instead ,only because it's something that my goal calls for .. i want to say that it referrs to what role it plays in your life .if necessary or if it must be ,we make it .

He is very good in math.In fact, whenever I have troubles in Math, he always give his best to help me despite the fact he finds it difficult because it is explained in English and not in chinese. i think Chinese people are really mathematician because most of them loves business.

hi kirinx, I don't know if this is true, but I often hear people say that those people good in math is bad in english and vice versa. For me, it seems to be true although I cannot say I am best in English. However, there are some of my classmates before who were both good in Math and English.

I love math. I think because I was forced to study a 1000 paged book when I was 11 years old. The trick is to practice and use your brain. If you are good in math, you are good in a lot of subjects because it enhances your problem solving skills and critical thinking. So try to love math because math is everywhere in the world.

When i was in high school, I also cried because of trigonometry. I even had a tutor. I thought i'm going to hate math for the rest of my life. But came college, i took up engineering because of peer pressure. But to my surprise, i passed every math subject i had.. and i've learned that math should be more of application than just reading the theories. And really, it should be know by heart. Don't worry, keep on practising and you'll see that one day, it is just an easy subject. :-)

hi vangie, you have a good experience in math. I think you have mathematician friends and very good math professor. Well I'm glad numbers are around, because I love money! :) I agree though, I cannot stand math. I will admit that I think math is one of the most efficient subjects for us to learn. You couldn't get anywhere without knowing the basics. That being said, I think after 7th grade, we know enough of the basics for it to stop. Nobody needs to know about Trigonometry.
