having just read that one of the chilean miners plans to compete in a marathon i am wondering how people feel about people that just keep achieving? we all know people like this. they do something impressive and then immediately start something else. do you find them irritating because really, completing a ten hour tv marathon and eating your own weight in popcorn is an achievement too. it is not fair that such things are not celebrated. or inspiring? or admirable, although this kind of life is not quite for you? i'll go with the last one. http://edition.cnn.com/2010/SPORT/11/01/new.york.marathon.miner/index.html?hpt=T2

It was great that they could survive in that hole without killing each other. That right there is quite an accomplishment in my book. Yes they'll go on and on, milking the media as much as they cant but can we blame them? I mean look at what kind of life they had before. I listened to it on tv while they were bringing them up, watched the special on Nova but now its over as far as Im concerned. They can do whatever they want....fly to the moon in a Russian spaceship if they want.

i think they should indeed make the most of their fame. even if this involves immediately registering to run a marathon. personally i'd probably have a nice vacation first, maybe one or two tv interviews, and a few months later *think* about doing something more energetic.

I heard the miners had a sort of pact of not saying everything so they could sell the story. I think they have more right to sell their odissey than all those second class celebrities that get a ghost writer to write their autobiography.

After being rescued the first statement was "now I'm off to Disneyland". Since you're over there, that's what the football players say when they win the Super Bowl

Yeah the announcer says "Joe Smith what are you going to do now that you won the Super Bowl?" Joe Smith says, "I'm going to Disneyland"

If anyone feels that they are not achieving much, then just hang around me for awhile. You will begin to feel much better about yourself.

I can't understand why some people get irritated about this story. First, the miners didn't wanted to stay under the ground, they were forced to do this. Then, they don't say we are heroes, but all the media repeat this. And after all - yes, their behaviour down there shows that they deserve to be admired. I'd like to say the same for the president Pinera. He said that Chilean people have "inspired the world" and I agree with that.
