a new idea on breath

For years I have used the breath for calming any stress. Many times I have been able to suggest to others the benefit of this little action. Yesterday I heard an additional suggestion that was, if when taking a healing breath you visualize that breath going into all the cells of your body it will be much more effective. It took me a couple of practise runs to get the hang of this but seemed to be very rewarding. Have you tried this and if so how did it work for you? I'm adding it to my stress recovery list.

Although it takes practice, it is a great idea to use breathing methods in order to reduce stress. I learnt this way of calming down by reading a book by Paul Wilson aptly titled ‘Calm’. It has a lot of good stress reducing tips in it. Yes, learning how to breathe correctly can be life changing!

Interesting. I must say I haven't tried that one. What I tend to do if there is stress or illness, when I breath in I visualize rounding up all the negativity re: stressful feelings or ill feelings and then when breathing out, I visualize releasing them. This works for me. I have tried it on my dog too, when she has a upset tummy. Maybe it is just me but she seems to be more relaxed when I do it. I like the idea of visualizing a healthy breath in and distributing to all the cells in my body. That would be a good one to do outside, say at the river or somewhere where the air is fresh. Thank you for sharing this.

I have to tell you Pat; I did this to my dog. The results were extremely powerful. She totally calmed and because ultimately relaxed. To the point she was snoring within a couple of minutes :o Amazing! I have to ask though - what do you do with the exhale?

Hi Pat; Thank you kindly for this explanation. Makes things much more clear now. I shall work on this and should I come up with any other neat morsel of information, I shall be back to share it with you (all) as well. Thanks again.

When I exhale I just visulize the energy flowing out into the world. I do start with cleaning breath before I start withhealing breath. When cleaning I just breath fresh in and stale out. I do this for the first couple of minutes.

Nope, never tried that, but I do take very, very deep breaths, especially when stretching...

Yes pat, full breath makes our whole body fresh. It also clears our mind from stress. To clear your lungs you can take breath closing your one nose and then other nose in the same way. You can practice this for fifty times. When practicing this you have to seat on the floor with bare feet and bending you legs.

Some people also imagine, when breathing in that positive energy comes in and negative energy flows out or anxiety. ;-) Your mind can achieve a lot of things... ;-)

I've never been a person that is good at all with visualization when it comes to ways to reduce my stress. That said, I've used deep healing breaths as a way of relaxing myself for years. The reason that this works for me is because of the fact that I've been able get through most of the stressful times that I've been through in my life without having to worry too terribly about having an anxiety attack.

Great idea! Research has shown that visualization is beneficial in healing and I've used it myself many time. I can see where I'll feel healthier and more energetic if I use your suggestion, thanks!

I used to be a lot into these things about 10 yrs ago and then for no reason, it just stopped working for me. I cant believe how much I was in this and now Im trying to stop smoking and hypnosis wont work on me anymore and its not because I havent tried. It worked before and now it wont. I think one has to be in a certain "frame" of mind to use the power of the brain. I need to find time to slow down and take time for myself and go back to thinking the way I used to. It does work, I know it does. You can also imagine the breath you're taking is green, to calm you down. You can also see it as white light entering and fixing each and every little cell in your body. Imagine your whole body turning white as if radiating this white light. Im writing it and I cant even see it in my mind. I must be overly tired. Im really happy it works for you. I'll get back to it eventually.

Though I have never tried the visualizing part but I have done the normal breathing exercises to control my stress and they have proved to be really effective. The new thing that you have said really looks a good one. I must try it as it has been a long time since, I have done any exercises.
