Is having a debut important?

For me, not really..because it is such a waste of time and money-we need to be practical these days. With one debut party, I can go to college for one, or even two semesters. My sister had a debut just recently and it wasn't that fun..just eating and a bit of a program. But i don't know, what do you think? Is it really that important? Maybe a small birthday party would do.....

Before, having a debut party is a big deal, but seeing my nieces grew up and reached their age 18, they are much simpler now. The older one just ask a family get together and a laptop which became useful on her studies. The other one asked for a digicam which until now, she's using it. Unlike if it was a party, it was just for the night and after that, nothing more. :-)

At least they are very practical and smart; and not asking for a huge party unlike others..
