I put my new trash can out the other morning before I went to work and when I came in that evening it was gone. Boy was I mad!

That's sad. We usually chain our trash can so it does not get stolen.

But then what do you do on trash day if it's chained? Stand outside with it until the garbage collection comes thru?

That's not a bad idea...might consider that myself.

Get a chain that is long enough for the garbage man collect your trash. Also if the garbage organized neatly in bags, they should be able to get to it easily without taking your can.

That's awful! Did you have your house number tagged on it? I have not had this problem here. But one would think because they could tell it was new someone took off with it. Crazy how things happen like this during the day hours so it gets one extra curious who the culprit is? Could it be a neighbor? or a passerby?

I didn't have my house number on the can yet so I made it real easy for them. I will be way more careful in the future. I only have one neighbor and he didn't take it or see anyone...had to be a passerby.

Hi. lowelllhenderson65. No. Not that I know of. People can be such terrible thieves! Why can't someone just go out and buy their own trash can. I would not want to use anyone else trash can. I prefer my own brand new trash can. That is so sad that someone is so stingy to buy their own trash can!

Yeah some people steal trash to look for your personal papers like your bank statements or credit card statements. I would be careful to only throw out stuff that does not have any of your info on it.Recently from where I am from there was a wave of identify theft and a lot of people have had their identy stolen and their credit cards and bank accounts used by thiefs.Today during this rough economy people are doing almost anything to get by , even if it means resorting to theft.

Yes that could be a problem...I have no idea what was in the trash that day.
