Do you think display of too much vulgar scenes and violence on television and in movies has an adverse effect on the normal mental growth of a child ?

Definitely and absolutely will have an adverse effects on children. Children are so impressionable and when they see violence on tv and in movies, they would think that this is the normal way of conducting themselves in the real world which is the reason why America who's always insisting on free speech has the highest crime rate in the world.

hi uminoor you are wrong there we do not have the highest crime rate in the world., there are other c ountries whose crime rates are higher but of course they will not count those. why all of a suddent tonight in many discussions must you diss my county? I do not go a round dissing other countries. and why not free speech, as we are a free country built on freedom. I also feel we must protect our children from the curd shown on tvs all over the world. I am sick tonight of hearing how horrid the U S is,yet when other countries have disasters who do they look to first? damned right. remember we are not suppose to insult e ach other here.

I'm sorry Hatley if my response to the discussion seems to be like I'm dissing your country. I'm just stating a fact. It's not my intention to insult anyone.
According to statistics, the United States of America does indeed have the highest reported crime rate in the world. And this doesn't include those crimes which are not reported.
Take a look at the statistics here :
http://www.mapsofworld.com/world-top-ten/countries-with-highest-reported-crime-rates.html
http://www.nationmaster.com/graph/cri_tot_cri-crime-total-crimes
And if you're talking about free speech, what do you think I'm doing? I'm exercising my right to free speech. That is the down side to free speech. You might get to hear things which you don't like to hear. If you're a strong advocate of free speech then you should allow anyone to say anything regardless if it might make you feel bad.
But what I said in my response to this discussion is not intended to diss or insult anyone. Like I said, I'm just stating a fact.

It depends on what the progam is. I guess it also depends on the parent. Parents also play an important role on guarding the child and choosing what should and shouldn't watch.

Yes I think too much vulgar scenes and violence on television has huge effect on child mental growth and development because children are just mimic what they see from adults and their environment so we should not let our children to watch shows that is not recommended for them.
