I didn't hear about the infamous tweet of Undersecretary Mislang till today. She wrote some offensive remarks about Vietnam's wine being not palatable to taste, as well as the Vietnamese male. USec Mislang was supposed to be a speech writer for the president. And Malacanang is saying that the blooper was a lapse and was due to Mislang being youthful. That is not acceptable, Mr. President, there are so many youth out there who can take the post of this Mislang and they would not commit such a terrible error. Fire her, NOW!

Hello there. If Gordon was President(joke), not only she would have been fired but scolded as well for such irresponsible remarks on the vietnam and it's people.well, what can i say, it's "free speech" no matter how many times we called it irresponsible. she thought she can still say it even now she's public official.she doesn't realize her actions can still be scrutinize. No doubt, she's Filipino alright you know eileen, we don't have intelligence problem here in the Philippines. but what really lacked to these educated minds of our time is "WISDOM" in terms of using the knowledge the right way. yeah, we got talent alright but most do it for the wrong reasons. my opinion for now is that, we don't really have to react that much when ever there is some what a racist remark, even if it's a joke. because most of our people are indeed "racist" even amongst different tribes.

Knight, my problem now is fjaril gave me a link. And I just learned that this Mislang is an alumna of the Asian Institute of Tourism, UP. That is where my daughter studies and I had been fuming for the longest time why the faculty and staff couldn't get their act together in that college. And now, here's one of their products...perhaps one of the conyos who spent most of their time gimmicking somewhere in Morato instead of the periodical section. Sigh! And they had the brains! Double sigh!

I believe others such as you're daughter can turn things AROUND. mislang isn't the only ONE representing UP, there are others, like you're daughter and those who have been in discreet and respectful of others cultures. It doesn't matter if she's the alumna or honorable mention. others can do better if they graduate. you're daughter has the opportunity not to make the same mistake as mislang did, thus, become BETTER than her, professionally. we can't let the bad apples speak for the entire organization, but set this as a motivation not to repeat some one else s mistakes. am sure you're daughter probably learned now that she can't just make a statement like this if ever she represented something in our country. otherwise, she might risked being scrutenized as well. it's not wrong to gimmick. but "not to keep their negative views" to themselves about other countries and cultures is wrong, and that is what mislang did. again, lack of wisdom is the problem.

I agree, youth is not an excuse. Even if you are young, you should know what not to say. ESPECIALLY if she is in a position of power. She was given that post so that she can help the Philippines and the president, what she did was directly the opposite of what she's supposed to do. I wish MalacaƱang would stop making excuses and start taking action. There is only so much that we can accept...

Now I am wondering how she got that post. I am sure there are more deserving speech writers who are not bratty as this Mai Mislang is. The President's men must scrutinize the applicants well. This one is nuts! Oh, sorry, but I am really so angry!

Rightly so. She is in a position wherein she can jeopardize our relationship with other countries. If she has complaints, then she should keep it personally. She should be aware that anything she says will be reflective of us as a nation. and that it can cause discord. If she's immature, then replace her with someone who knows the gravity of her every word.

What actually was said? I keep noticing all sorts of news stories which I seem to be missing somehow. I'm aware that they say he's on the way out, as people are unhappy with how he's spent the budget but I haven't heard anything about a speech or blooper. Whatever was said, I think it's sounds pretty lame to blame it down to an excuse as I really can't see why being youthful would be a reason. He would be much better saying it was down to a lack of experience or that it was a human error and get the person to be honest when saying sorry.

I don't know the situation eileen, but I understand it since my husband and I spoke about this this morning. My 8 y/o did something he knew was wrong, and yet my husband wants to say, "It's his age bracket" What does age have to do with knowing right from wrong? Especially since I have been teaching him? It isn't right, if a person knows what they do is wrong, it doesn't matter what their age is, I totally agree...

Reminded me of that line in a song Teach your children well, your father's health, will slowly go by... Children understands the concept of right and wrong when the parents or the guardians instill in them the discipline early on.

I agree. I think her style would fit a gossip column, but to write the president's speeches does not fit her. If she is trying to be feisty or what, well, the effect she generated was one of contempt and dislike for her. This is not good for the President. She needs to be fired, I agree with you.

Might her action and attitude is so childish and un-professional, but nobody's perfect and as I know she admit and apologize the action. I think its enough to give her another chance, let her learn from her mistake... I think its over.. see you around

Apologies are so easy to accept, but if the mistake entails a gravity of national proportion, then it is time to say I'm sorry, too, but you have to go. In Malacanang, there must never be room for error.

I really had to comment on this. I don't think what she did was a minor infraction. As a public official, she should know that her every action is under a microscope. There are actions worthy of another chance. This was just plain childish. We need mature people in the government, people who will think first - not tweet first, think later.

Precisely! Everyone, especially from the President's Cabinet, must take the consequences of their actions.
