How do you copy videos to your iPod with or without Itune?

I make so many attempts to try to make copy of a video to iPod, but it was a failure. I don't want to spend money to purchase those movies or videos from iTune online, but I have some movies available in my hard drive recently. I would like to add to my iPod movies playlist. I can't simply add file or copy and paste it. What should I do? What program can I use to make this task done? Can I simply convert the video files using AVS video converter convert it to iPod format, and add to my iPod? What other methods would you use?

I think you could do it, but you'd have to know what your computer calls the iPod drive and where the video files are stored on it, but they'd have to be in the correct file type though. Using iTunes to put videos on it is easier though.
