I decided to place this information here just for some fun and what I think will be a pretty cool discussion. So one of the third parties has to become president for a what if and they will gain both the House and Senate for at least two years which one would you want it to be and why? Also assume that they are going to slam their policies in the first 100 days of them coming to power. Libertarian Party http://www.lp.org/platform Constitution Party http://www.constitutionparty.com/party_platform.php Liberal Party (Not the Democrats or socialist) http://www.liberalparty.org/issueanswer.shtml Socialist Party USA http://socialistparty-usa.org/platform/ Communist Party USA http://www.cpusa.org/faq/ America First Party http://www.americafirstparty.org/ Working Families Party http://www.workingfamiliesparty.org/ Boston Tea Party http://www.bostontea.us/ America's Independent Party http://www.selfgovernment.us/ These are just some of the parties and if you know of one you would rather see than the ones I decided to put on here. Then please do pick it but it would nice for you to post a link to at least their Home Page for people who are just joining this to be able to pick that party too if they like it. So which party would you like to see take office if the Dems and Reps couldn't run for what ever reason. Maybe they destroy themselves so badly in the eyes of the People that the third parties are the only ones that get the chance. Which party would you like to see go into the history books for being the first in years to not be a Republican or Democrat and be able to slam their platform through. Thanks

I would be for the socialist party. I eat a vegan diet, and they protect animals rights. One of their platforms is green energy. They would protect the environment. They would not allow our food to be genetically modified. They protect civil rights. They would abolish corporate personhood. Where have they been all my life? I am soooooooo signing up.

There are so many good ones to choose from that you posted. My fall back would be communism.

I also like the liberal party, and the working families party. The working families party, because of Matt Damon's endorsement, and because they are progressive. Golly, I will take a combo of all four. I am bookmarking this conversation. Great topic!

I just can't get away from this discussion. Definite, BIG FAT NO, to the "tea party", and a NO to America first. Not keen on libertarians (sorry), but you a shining example of a great libertarian.

Unfortunately even amongst third parties you'll get candidates who don't match the ideals. The Reform Party was pretty good and I like their policy of staying out of social issues until they started running candidates like Pat Buchanan who couldn't abide by that rule. http://reformparty.org/core-principles/ I consider myself a libertarian, but the "Libertarian Party" isn't perfect either. They ran a presidential candidate who once proposed an amendment to the constitution that would officially declare Jesus lord. The Constitution Party is another one I like. The problem is that they lack unity and in some states, the local branch of the constitution party actually tries to push religious issues into law despite the fact that that would be against the constitution. Basically, I'm just pointing out that you really have to look at the individual candidates. There were 13 presidential candidates on my voting ballot in Florida and I thoroughly researched each and every one of them. I also discovered that one, Eugene Puryear of the Party for Socialism and Liberation, wasn't even qualified to be in office yet he and Gloria LaRiva made it on the ballots in 13 states showing exactly how little is done to verify the very basic qualifications necessary for a presidential or vice presidential candidate. I can assure you that nobody checked HIS birth certificate. The core values of the parties I mentioned (aside from PSL) are all well and good, but they've all been known to run some bad candidates. By the same token I'm right on board with the general ideals of the Republican party, but the politicians are mostly corrupt puds who use talking points to get votes while ignoring the values they pretend to espouse.

That's why I was saying a what if type thing if everything was perfect in that the candidates would stick to the party platform.

Only problem with some state is that it is almost impossible for one of these third parties to get themselves on the ballot. State law in several has almost made it a sure thing that only the Democratic party and the GOP will be only the ballot. I am currently a due paying member of the Libertarian party but due to the almost impossibility of the LP getting ballot statues as a state party I am left voting between the Democratic candidate, the Republican candidate, and oddly enough the Green party candidate. The LP Presidential candidate is on the ballot but that will be it. I know back in 08 the LP tried their best to even get Barr/Root on the ballot in many other states which they were only able to place their nominees in 37 states if I remember correctly. I might be wrong about that number but it sounds correct. My neighboring state of Oklahoma for example does not allow any party except the Democratic party and the GOP. Due to my situation I mostly call myself a Republican due to the majority of the candidates I vote for just so happens to be Republican but I am registered Libertarian. So I took the long way around by saying I would want the LP to be the managers of government.

Well I haven't payed the LP yet but yeah they are the ones I want to see take over. As they are for what I want social tolerance and well a government that can stay inside its budget like I have to stay inside of mine :) Oh and thank you for responding to my discussions :)
