I went out with $52. Got gas, milk, bread, margarine and cereal! Came home with 50 cents! That got me to thinking about the $8.50 an hour jobs that are slowly opening up. So we will be employed, but just earning depression dollars. Why do I see a lot of pedestrians in our future? What about you. Are you finding work? Will you be taking the bus?

Interesting! I don't have a job right now (long story!) but I work online. However, I also don't have a vehicle. I don't think I will buy another one any time soon. Mostly because I don't have the money! But I don't think I want to add back into my budget the gas bill, the insurance costs and tags etc. I will probably hug my bike for a long time!

I am lucky I live close to my job. But the price of gas etc it alarming especially since there is a glut right now! Tons of it laying around just waiting for them to raise the price....also I guess groceries are going up to.....I have been at the same job for 25 years but sure would hate to have to go out and try to find a new one right now!

You definitely have a niche going for you! Hopefully you can continue to "weather the storm".

I have luckily worked through this whole mess but had to take a drastically less paying job, but it did have better benefits. It also brought me closer to home. I can realistically, if just going to and from work daily, go almost 3 weeks before I have to fill up my tank.

And still, it bites. I rarely have to drive anywhere. We are just very aware of the needs of others because we were there once. Years ago we even had our gas turned off during the summer! My husband solved that problem with "lets pretend we're camping"! Been there done that!

well although there is inflation, i am not worrying because of the pace at which our economy is growing and i am sure that after my graduation i will be able to earn a fair deal of money for my requirements.

Welcome to the real world, L.O.L. I don't mean anything sarcastic by that I am just saying even at 10 dollars an hour money does not go far I know exactly how you feel, I have had to count pennies for gas before and it is no fun. I had a job got offered another and went to it and got disrespected there and now I am going back to my old job but they want me to wait til Monday because they are off for Veterans Day but I need money now, I wont get paid again for 2 more weeks it is going to be a rough 2 weeks because I have a lot of unpaid bills which are due and past due and not hardly any money left! Well I wish you luck and Have a Great Day!

My husband and I have very good jobs. I was just thinking about the large numbers of people who are now paid less than ever before if they even have a job! This economy hits the middle class hardest.

Jamaica is beautiful! It'd full of wonderful, hard working people. I noticed life is very hard there. I hope you, with a very good understanding of English, could form a business just off tourism! Have a great evening!

I'm a pedestrian for a longtime now. I sold my car when we had a serious inflation in my country and it was not possible for me to buy gas. This is not a big deal, I like to walk. The real problem is that now the food is more and more expensive. And it would be hard to do without food :)

$8.50 an hour is a heck of a lot better than what I make! I work three jobs. On the first one, I make about 7.47$ an hour, the second is strictly commissions so I make maybe 50-80$ a week and the third I make 8.00$ an hour... sOoOoOo... haha. I could see people losing their cars though! My car insurance is 200$ a MONTH. It absolutely kills me. My parents pay it because they are awesome and nice. Also, gas is harsh. It takes me 40$ to fill up my tank :/ But my mom and I split it 50/50. When I move out though, it's going to be really hard. I may have to get a different car; a used one.

Wow! You must be a very good daughter! Good for you! I hope you pursue a better paying job before you move away. Start your business reference list and start your resume' immediately! You'll get there. You work too hard not to!

you see lot of pedestrians because they are earning money at the same time having a healthy living. If you dont have money to take a ride a bus, just choose to walk because you dont whats next to you. Just spend your money wisely.

My husband and I are in well paying positions. We are just very aware of people's struggle with making a living. We spend time making resources available to those in need. From low cost bicycles because people have less money and are riding the bus even less, to gardening advice in our neighborhood. We are very aware of the needs of others. Years ago we were there too! Have a great day!
