For the second match running, Sunderland's Cattermole is lucky not to be red-card. First, against Stoke, his handball on the goal-line to prevent a certain goal was not spotted. Second, his horrific tackle on Modric, which he only receive a yellow card. He lucky charm is certainly working overtime now. Having been sent off twice already this season, do you think the Cattermole is one dirty player?

I think there are so many players these days whose sole role seems to stop others playing the game. Until and unless FIFA takes stringent actions against such players, the real football players will continue to be at the risk or might need to be like the Portuguese players i.e. diving for everything!! I loved the way the referee sent of Essien for a two-footed challenge for the intent even though there was no damage then!! I think that is the right way to go eliminate this aspect of the game so that players like Cattermole and De Jong do not end the careers of the like of Modric and Alonso!! Cheers! Ram

Credits to FIFA and UEFA, they did tried to rule out dangerous tackles. However, the punishment is not severe enough to deter those players. I have read before somewhere that someone did mentioned that the aggressor should be ban for the duration that the victim is out due to the aftermath of such tackle. Meaning to say, if the victim has his leg broken and is out of the game for one years, the other player who causes it will also have to sit out for the entire duration.

Yes, I actually liked that suggestion. I think that needs to be implemented for this thing to stop now. Cheers! Ram

I said many times before, that in the Premier League are the referees are too weak, they don't see obvious fouls and they let too heavy challenges unpunished. For me it is no surprise that in the EPL are so many heavy injuries, and this is all because the referees are not leading the game by the book. If they would punish heavy tackles harder, then maybe players wouldn't go so hard to the ball, and they would not injure their opponents. As for Cattermole, I don't know him, but I have seen the tackle against Modric, and I think a tackle like that should be punished with at least 6-7 game ban. That would do him think about the way he tackles. And if he does it again, then he should receive 3 months of ban, and the ban should increase as he makes other tackles like that. If the referees would protect players more, then injuries like Eduardo or Ramsey suffered wouldn't be so many.
