Snopes Mom ands Pop Operation?!

Only recently did Wikipedia get to the bottom of it - kinda makes you wonder what they were hiding. Well, finally, we know. It is run by a husband and wife team - that's right, no big office of investigators and researchers, no team of lawyers. It's just a mom-and-pop operation that began as a hobby . David and Barbara Mikkelson in the San Fernando Valley of California started the website about 13 years ago - and they have no formal background or experience in investigative research. Then it has been learned the Mikkelson's are very Democratic (party) and extremely liberal. As we all now know from this presidential election, liberals have a purpose agenda to discredit anything that appears to be conservative. There has been much criticism lately over the Internet with people pointing out the Mikkelson's liberalism revealing itself in their web site findings. Gee, what a shock? http://www.sodahead.com/united-states/snopes-is-a-hoax/question-1164079/ wikipedia.org/wiki/Snopes.com I did not know any of this. Did you? I was sure they had a huge organization of researchers. I have had my doubts on some of information I questioned and Snopes said it was false. Will this article affect how you view Snopes as the ultimate truth verification site?

It doesn't bother me- all of this information is about "About Snopes.com" on the Snopes website. There's a list of sources for each legend/rumor that you can check if you really want to double check something. They state that they have no political leanings- he is apparently registered as an independent. Conservatives try to make discredit anything liberal, too. It works both ways. Snopes generally seems to be looking for the truth- they debunk some rumored quotes from Bush that would make him look like an idiot, and they debunk the claim that Obama is not an American citizen. They confirm that Obama paid parking tickets from his time at Harvard in 2007- not something terrible, but not exactly something one would be proud of. Politicians tend to give half-truths (as a poli sci major, I could tell you a lot about this), and so there is a lot to be debunked. Eight of the past thirteen years we've had a Republican president, so there will be more "rumors" from a Republican administration to give proper information for.

Hiya heather, Personally I have had no idea who those People were I have read it right down to the Bottom of the Page too. It has been made clear to me what they have been doing. No better no worse than what they do here except they don´t have many Websites like that here. Plenty of smokescreens in this Country (grin) plenty of pow wows going on but between themselves. Politicians tend to get together much like yours do and have their little meetings for whatever and it´s all secret most of it. We don´t get to find anything out really. You can´t really follow them on the Internet like you can the famous Spanish People and even then there is very little of that also. I would like to find in Spain truth verification sites think they will be a long time coming. The explanation of our President on Thursday has left me non the wiser as to why the Air Strike really happened. Verily he doth talk in "riddles" and how.

Thanks for posting this. Although I have wondered about Snopes, I had never checked it out. Now that I know of their liberal basis (and bias) their word is not worth much to me.

I verified that Snopes was legitimate when I first started using them. It was then that I found out it was a husband and wife team. I think they are ethical as far as their site is concerned and would report things accurately. I value their findings tremendously and have no problem trusting them implicitly.

I found out last year that it was just two people and I was very surprised. I admired them. I only use them to verify all those dumb emails I get warning me of viruses and stuff like rumors that Ben Franklin invented the wheel. I haven't detected any bias one way or the other but I limit my use of Snopes--just because I requested my family and friends to use them before forwarding anything to me!
