Wondering of Syndrome (?)

I was post a discussion about a disease of the peoples only in Indonesia and Malaysia called "LATAH". Well, it's been revised as a Syndrome not a Disease. So it means that syndrome is not a (mental) disease. Does it mean a syndrome can't be cured? Is there any scientific explanation that caused a syndrome, i.e. LATAH syndrome, as it was on PMS? And still to my wonder, why does this "LATAH" syndrome only suffered by Indonesia and Malaysia peoples?
