Who exactly is offended by the American flag? And why? Come on speak up? What people living here in this country are offended by the flag? We have had too many incidents of school kids being told they can't wear american flag t-shirts or have the american flag on their bikes. The schools are saying that it offends people and can cause "racial issues". So I want to know who is offended and why. Are people really offended or are the schools just making this up?

I am not offended by the flag per sey. I am more offended how much disreguard it has been given. Take Califorinia for a moment. They are a US state but are allowed to fly a Mexico flag above our own?! Come one that is like a slap in the face!!!

I would like to know where this is, too. The American flag should *always* at the top...not the flag of another country.

Is this what you are talking about? http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/57772/protest_ends_with_mexican_flag_on_california.html I have to laugh (to keep from loosing my temper). These people want immigration reform to give them citizenship status in this country...but then they go and pull our flag off a pole and stomp on it and then put up the Mexican flag in it's place and fly the american flag upside down below it. IF you hate this country and it's flag so much....why should we give you citizenship? heck if you hate it so much WHY would you even WANT citizenship or even live in this country? I say...go home to Mexico and leave us alone.

If someone is offended then tell them to head toward which ever border will take them someplace where they won't be offended. It is interesting that this is one of the few countries that celebrates other countries and cultures openly. What other country celebrates USA Day? or have a USA Fest. I have been to Irish Fest, Mexican Fest, October Fest (German) or Italian Fest? I think that as a country on the whole we are very tolerant and we do let people celebrate their heritage and culture. Why can't they respect a few of our traditions? If they can't be tolerant of other people then maybe they should consider moving.

Do other countries celebrate Thanksgiving? No. But you are right we celebrate other countries' holidays. For someone to be offended by the flag of the country they will in....they have GOT to really hate that country.. So why not just move if you hate it so much.

When they are offended we have to be understanding. When we are offended we are told that we must be tolerant and think of diversity. It is time for everyone to be tolerant of all people and respectful of our country.

I am proud of our American Flag. I am VERY proud to be an American. I am Extremely proud of the brave men and women that fought for us to have and keep our flag and spread freedom. In my opinion, ANYBODY that IS offended by it, needs to get packin.

hi there Lilwonders, Great point!! I know a lot of people from all different nationalities and to be honest, I have never yet come across one that is offended by the American flag or that doesn't try hard to speak English so that I can understand him. If there are any that are offended then that should signal to us that they don't belong here. I am guessing that it is all the media and political groups that promote this type of thinking and it does get people fired up. These issues create problems where none need exist. Can you imagine in the case of the kid that had to remove the flag. So all the Americans get fired up because why should the Mexicans be offended at OUR flag. Now the MExicans are insulted because we are all talking dirt about them. Everyone is arguing as if someone offended them when all that really happened is that someone tossed out a "what if " qaestion.

This discourse over our flag really gets to me because, as you well know, we honor it at our house. The American flag is *never* flown below another flag and anyone who sees something like that should speak out about it. I can, however, understand a high school principal not wanting a gang of kids decked out in American flag gear making a statement during Cinco de Mayo in a school with a large Spanish student population because that day was special to them. If our schools were open on July 4th. I would expect that same principal to intercept a gang of kids decked out in Mexican flag gear. I do believe, though, that no one knows the racial situation in any school better than the administration of that school so they should be free to make whatever rules they believe are necessary in order to keep the peace.

Cinco de Mayo is not even a Mexican holiday.

Cinco de Mayo is NOT am American holiday. If people want to celebrate it that it is fine...but it should not effect people's right to honor our country and our flag. Personally I don't see why those kids should be allowed to celebrate it at school anyway. It is not an American holiday. If they want to celebrate it at home with their families...fine. Be proud of your hertiage and your culture...but let others be proud of theirs too. How would offend someone if they were celebrating their heritage to see kids celebrating another one? Personally I think the principle over reacted. Those kids are in America. So therefore they should not have any problems or be offended by the American flag. If they are...maybe they need to move. I do think they need to keep order and peace...but they are teaching kids it is bad to be patriotic to this country. The one they are living in. the one whose freedoms they enjoy and who people are right now dying for. What kind of message does that send? Not a good one.

It's politcally correct and that's still in vogue, at least in California. But I've had PC about as much as I can take. No wonder the school system in California is near the bottom if not at the bottom with school administrators like this.

But how is the America flag unPC?

You're not far enough left to understand, LilWonders. You and I will probably never understand how those on the left reason. I think flying the U.S. flag in America is patriotic. I think flying, hanging, etc. the Mexican flag in my country is unpatriotic. You yearn for Mexico. You want to hang the Mexican flag. I can point you the way south.

I remember having a pair of canvas shoes like peds or something but they were covered in flags for the print. They were really cute. I've also had shirts with flags on them. I remember my history teacher really liked my shoes. I would have been really mad if the school had told me I couldnt wear my flag shoes. That would be ridiculous. If someone wants to wear things with flags on it or have a flag keychain on their bookbag etc. they should be able to without having to worry about racial issues. We live in AMERICA if someone doesnt like that then they should leave. When I was a teenager I felt it was strange that we had to stand up every day and pledge to the flag. I refused to do it. NOT because I was against my country but because I felt it was unnecessary to stand there basically worshiping the flag. My kids have shirts with flags on them thats great but standing around pledging to the flag is to much I think.
