Since today is Saturday the 13th here & nobody is whining nor carrying on over the fact that today is the 13th, it has made me wonder...WHY is it ONLY Friday the 13th that's considered the unlucky day...Why is it not just the 13th in general??? Nobody seems to care when it's Sunday the 13th or Monday the 13th. Just why is Friday the 13th considered the ONLY unlucky day????

Probably because it only occurs a few times a year. I'm not sure how many Friday 13ths we have each year but I think of it as a lucky day and it usually is! A myLot friend just told me she met her dear husband on Friday the 13th so it's a very lucky day for many of us!

I'm thrilled to hear that some find Friday the 13th to be lucky!!! Most of the time for me it is neither lucky nor unlucky. However, when I was a child I was being taken to school by a neighbor when the car I was in ran over my dog. I will NEVER forget that sound!!! So, I can honestly say that I've had more unlucky Friday the 13th's than I have had lucky ones. I think there are only 3 or 4 Friday the 13th. in any given year. I think that IF the month begins on a Sunday, the 13th will fall on a Friday. I'm just wondering why it's only when the 13th falls on a Friday that we believe it to be unlucky??? Most superstitions have a logical origin.

I haven't looked this up, but I believe the number 13 is unlucky because Judas is considered the 13th disciple and he betrayed Christ. And Friday was the day on which Christ was crucified. I could be completely wrong. But I believe someone told me this once.

That is the way people think...even Christians. However, to me...logically speaking...Judas was put on this earth specifically to betray Christ, so he wasn't unlucky. Christ had to die on a Friday so He could rise on a Sunday. If you really believe in & trust God, ALL that was in God's plan & therefore NOT unlucky!!!

Actually, as a Christian, I don't believe in luck at all. I'm not a believer in magical thinking. My God is sovereign.

Seems that the 13th is also taboo in buildings and room numbers...and clothing sizes..see how things jump from a 12 to a 14? Kids shoe sizes jump from a 12 to a size 1...I don't feel 13 is really bad in itself..just people may have thought it did because they actually pay more attention on those days then others...or so I feel. I also found that Spanish-speaking countries, instead of Friday, Tuesday the 13th is considered a day of bad luck.Greeks also consider Tuesday to be an unlucky day.According to the Stress Management Center and Phobia Institute in Asheville, North Carolina, an estimated 17 to 21 million people in the United States are affected by a fear of this day. Some people are so paralyzed by fear that they avoid their normal routines in doing business, taking flights or even getting out of bed. "It's been estimated that [US]$800 or $900 million is lost in business on this day". To me though it is just usually another day.. I don't think it holds any magic or has any fear in it for me.

The fear of Friday the 13th is called "friggatriskadekaphobia" or something close to that!!! Since I seldom go on vacations preferring to take multiple long weekends, I usually take all the Friday the 13th off as a vacation day. I don't really fear those days, but it's an acceptable excuse at work!!! Of course I've never understood the fear of the number 13 either. I'm 60 years old & saying there's an average of 3 Friday the 13th per year, that's 180 Friday the 13th's I've lived through & I've ONLY had ONE unlucky one!!! So, i don't really see them as unlucky!!!!

Traditionally going back centuries all Friday's were considered to be unlucky! Thgis was especially so for people concerned with the sea who thought that it was unlucky to start their vovage on a Friday. It is thought to go back to Jesus's crusifiction on a Friday and Dam and Eve eating the forbidden fruit on a FRiday, even Chaucer mentions it as being unlucky in the CAnterbury Tales. Thirteen is reputidly also un lucky so add them together and you get a double whammy of bad luck!!

Most traditions have a quasi-logical beginning. I have not found the actual beginning of this one.

There is very feared superstition about Friday the 13th. This fear is said to have started in the middle ages and to this day, people believe terrible things happen on Friday 13th. We are therefore very lucky this year since we escaped the fear!

How did we escape the fear this year??? August 13, 2010, fell on a Friday!!! I understand that ALL this was born out of superstitions;however, most superstitions began from a specific basis...whether "real" or "imagined"!!! I've been unable to trace this superstition back to a specific event!!!

In many cultures the number 13 is considered unlucky, it's not only a Christian belief due to the idea of the Last Supper their were a total of 12 disciples plus Christ, but the idea of 13 being unlucky is also a pagan belief of olden days before Christianity. As for Friday the thirteenth, that could be a holdover to the idea that Christ was crucified on a Friday...thus somewhere eons ago, someone decided that the combo of 13 and Friday was considered unlucky...as for me I have no superstition about Friday 13th or any other day on the 13th being unlucky

My thinking is that Christ had to die on Friday in order for Him to rise from His grave in Sunday. For sure, Pagan beliefs probably had a lot to do with this!!! I've only had ONE unlucky Friday the 13th over the course of 60 years, so I can't honestly say Friday the 13th is an unlucky day for me either!!!

Maybe it's just culture and tradition stuffs that say Friday the 13th is the most unluckiest day in history. I think maybe it doesn't appear frequently, which explains it.

It only happens 3 to 4 time in any given year. In most cultures it is possible to trace a tradition back to its original source. This one doesn't seem to have an original source.

I didn't even realize it was the 13th and even though it isn't friday today I've been really clumsy and been tripping over EVERYTHING! I've been dropping stuff and tripping all day, hit my toes on the door then went into the kitchen, tripped over bag then slipped on the rug and hit the stove. So that was a pretty unlucky moment.

i always wanted to know why. i remember when going on an elevator which has more than 13 floors they usually skip that floor and just call that floor, floor 14th when it is actually floor 13th. So why is the friday so important? Hmmm who knows

Friday was also considered to be unlucky so i think that's why friday the 13th is considered unlucky. We all know why 13 is considered unlucky, right? It's 13 apostles. The 13th is judas and he betrayed jesus.

Why was Friday also considered to be unlucky??? God put Judas on this earth simply so he would be there to betray Jesus, so I don't think he's unlucky. So, I'm still wondering why it is ONLY Friday the 13th that is unlucky???
