Has Anyones Computer Been Infected with a Virus

About two days ago, my brothers email sent out a message. In the message, a website was included, where users could buy certain stuff. Two days later, I know about fifty people whose computers were infected the same way. Has any of your computers been infected?? Also, do you think an anti-virus program would be helpful??
