The comtrail off the coast of Southen California has been the talk and double talk of conspiracy theorist, US government official and the incompetent press alike. SO what's the truth?
Conspiracy theorists have come up with everything from UFOs to Foreign government missile launches.
Our government has offered explanations including a regular jet flight to amature rocketeers.
The press has covered and covered up whatever they felt like.
So which is true?
Now we have a CNN report that it was China. If this is true, they couldn't have picked a better time to flex their muscle. The president out of the country, right before the G20 summits and just as China lowered the US credit score from AA to A+.
So which is true?

I saw the video on the internet when it was first reported, and it looked like a missile or rocket to me.
The fact that the government has not come up with a clear answer can only mean that they are hiding something... and you can rule out an amateur rocket.
What surprise me however, is that if it was China...
How could they not know about a Chinese submarine?
And would it not be risky for China to pull a stunt like that?
It could easily be regarded as an act of war.
The fact that there are no diplomatic retalation against China
We can also rule China out.
My guess would be that a drunk sailor on a US submarine pushed the button by mistake. lol
And the government cannot admit that sort of mistake. lol

LOL!!!! Well, it isn't quite as simple to launch a missile as just pushing a button, launches take several people. Although were that the case, I would hate to have been that sailor.
I don't know if you saw mu response above or not, but I solved this mytery days ago. This link explains everything:

Is this what we call today "Investigative journalism"?
The next few decades are going to be freaky dangerous if some creep journalist can spread some creepy rumor like that.

I'm still sticking with my story, flight AWE808. Too much points to it. Image from a web cam the very next day at roughly the same time that looks exactly like the image captured from the news chopper, flight aware confirming flight time and path. China is hull of it.

I am willing to believe everything from the blogger who took a picture of the flight that took off at the same time next day to the story that there was a Chinese sub off the waters of CA and it shot a missile. The problem is that sometimes the conspiracy theories are more convincing than the more normal explanations. I think any one of the theories could be true. The most disturbing part is that the sighting caused the military to go around counting missiles to make sure one wasn't missing. I would expect them to know sooner than that if one had gone missing.

Well the helicopter Pilot followed the com trail for some 10 Minutes, Missiles generally travel several thousand miles an hour. A helicopter wouldn't be able to track it if it was incoming or just a straight up missile launch.

Even in this clip it shows what a missile launch looks like an the video captured from the Helicopter shows that the object is not moving at the speed of a rocket or military level Missile. Also we have a Missile Defense system no one else reported or noticed the missile. execpt for this helicopter pilot that tracked an "Missile" for 10 minutes going less than the speed of sound as helicopters can't break the sound barrier is very unlikely. Also China would have to get through our own subs and get with in 35 Miles of the United States with a sub would be really difficult as we built things to track submarines off our coast during the cold war.
