Hello Dear Lotters Catastrophes like earthquakes, hurricanes, floods, violent crimes etc are so common and routine that many of us have become numb to the tragic news stories. Without a heightened awareness, focused concern, and effective planning, we have lost the edge that can save lives. Be safe. Be prepared. Plan ahead for the unexpected. How will you protect your family? A serious earthquake can be a traumatic experience, and it is easy to forget safety measures in the chaos. Fortunately, most earthquake safety measures are common sense, but if you forget everything else, remember: drop, cover, and hold on. Also, be aware that the majority of earthquake fatalities happen after the earthquake, so remember that the danger does not end when the shaking does! If you are indoors during an earthquake, move away from unsupported areas and windows. Try to get under a doorway or another area of the building which is held up by strong beams If you are outdoors during an earthquake, move to an area which is as open as possible. Avoid buildings, utility poles, and other objects which may fall during an earthquake and injure you Your and your family safety is concerned with the precaution you have taken a head of any disaster, so what do you think other precautions should be taken, what focused you have in mind in such situation for the safety of your family and how can we aware our families as well as general public? Your suggestions are highly appreciated Thanks in advance for participation...:)

Before protecting others I will have to protect myself first. We don't need to panic because we will lose control of ourselves if we do. Just calm down and think of the first things you can do. If possible, you should go to vast places where there are no buildings and light posts around you. If you are consumed inside a crowded place then you should go under the strong table to keep yourself from falling things from the roof, chandeliers, light bulbs, fluorescent lamps, etc. I hope I have contributed something.

Hi Yeah, you are right, these are the things which must be followed in any disaster but I think if you are in a position to save others and you can do it then you should not feel any type of hesitation. Have a nice day...:) See u around...:)

Apart from the many points of yours, one needs to be PHYSICALLY fit, mentally alert and PSYCHOLOGICALLY prepared, to meet any situation, let alone an Earth Quake. If you try for Spiritual strength, all the better. Reading about disasters and how the survivors coped, like the recent Chile Miners, will also be of tremendous help. I used to read a lot of stories about courage etc in Readers Digest.

Hi Vijay I agree with you that we should read or watch some books or movies related to such type of disasters and should take note of the actions, this ll help us in reading and understanding the situation. Yeah, I really like the Chile Miners efforts for their survival, I watched all the activities live and online and that was really impressive, I have never seen such type of example in the history. Thanks for your nice response, be happy and be the reason of happiness in others life...:) Have a nice day...:)

Hello Saqi, Don't panic, if there's a table hide from there, avoid any glass of some kind.hide any table that can handle the ceiling fall. don't run insane or panicking, or any structure can hit you. Unless it's an 2012 earthquake scenario, just hide in the table. or run but stay away from the electric post.

Thanks a lot for sharing so much about the earthquakes. In Malaysia, I miss earthquake very much. I have totally no idea about earthquake. From an article which I read in the newspaper, the pupils were taught to hide under the table during the earthquake. This is to prevent them from being hurt by falling objects. It is true because everything at the high level can drop and step on you when the whole building shakes.

Earth quake is really a devastating force of nature.Since it is a force of nature, it can not be prevented nor controlled.Pointer to remember: 1. The best way to deal with it is to be aware of your surrounding. 2. Know the nearest exit of the building. 3. Know a safest place to evacuate. 4.Stay away from tall objects like post or building. 5. Be sure that everyone in the family or office the place to meet after the earth quake in case you get separated. 6. Carry a whistle, in case you are trapped. You can signal for help by blowing your whistle. 7. Be calm as much as possible.

We don't have earthquakes where I live, which is Alabama. They have had them in California and Alaska, though. We have to deal with tornadoes in the spring, though. I have a walk-in closet in my house and I was taught to go in there whenever a tornado watch or warning was in effect. It never helps to panic in any situation. You have a lot of good tips here.
