Do you remember your first computer?

Apple II - The first computer my father brought home, back in 1996-97, was an Apple II. It wasn't kid friendly, or at least I didn't find it to be, since I was very little at the time.

Do you remember what your very first computer was? What operating system were you running? What are you using now? When I was four or five, my dad brought home our first computer. It was an Apple II. I found it very hard to use, and I don't really remember much about it, although said computer is still in our basement. A couple years later, he built two computers - one for me, and one for my sister - which ran Windows 95. This was a lot easier to use, although we had very few games. I remember playing Nightmare Ned, but that's about it. I now own an eMachines E627, which formerly ran Windows 7 64 bit Home Edition, but is now running Ubuntu 10.04. I recently acquired a new copy of Nightmare Ned, and I can't play it on the laptop unfortunately, but thankfully we have another computer running Vista that it works nicely on.

I was a 386 DX 40MHz, with 4MB RAM and a 200MB HD, running DOS 6.22 with Windows 3.11. Those were good times, with a complete bootup in less than 10 seconds and fully running Windows took 20 seconds at most, everything that age was very fast in fact. That's my very first machine that worked very well for years, until we bought a new one and that old remained in a corner somewhere. It right now remains there, I suppose that It's still working if I plug it, just to remember those old days where Microsoft did good programs and everything works well.

My first computer was a Tandy Color Computer II by Radio Shack. I think it had only 16 K of memory. There was no hard drive for it at first, so I had to use a tape drive to store programs and data. And you also had to hook it up to a TV to use it as a monitor/screen! Later on I got an external floppy disk drive for it, and I upgraded the memory to 64 K (not Megabytes, Kilobytes!). I used that computer for homework assignments and projects when I went to college. After that, I graduated to an Apple IIe which I used at work. From there, it's all history - I kept upgrading machines to 286's, 486's, PC's with windows, and finally to what I have now. The history of computers is fascinating! :-)

I got my very own first computer when i was 20 years old, lol. It's a laptop run by AMD and Windows Vista. I am still using it now and it's running okay. I increased it's RAM, and i am going to use this nice laptop for a few more years until i am going to get myself a new computer. I am going to keep this one, the only problem remains is that it gets heated quite soon and i really hate that. It's an HP, the latest laptops run cool and i kinda want them. I need to clean my laptop from the inside too, it would probably become much better when i do that. I still like my computer and wish it would run for 5 more years or so. I had Ubuntu installed too, but i removed it, because i was not really using it. I want to operate Macintosh, i never got a chance to use that, but i am not going to waste my money on a Mac. There are a lot of things one can do with a windows computer, although you have to admit there are some advantages using a Mac.

My first computer is a pentium 1 intel. It has a 16megabytes ram and 1 megabyte video card. I use to play Doom and Doom 2 back in the days. I also play Mortal Kombat 2 so the only purpose my computer has is for gaming purposes. And also I got addicted to starcraft it is the best game I had back in those days.

i can't remember the first computer that my dad bought... but i can still remember that the operating system is DOS and we still use diskette if we want to store our data externally... it is so difficult and such a hassle to use because we have to remember all the DOS commands in order to run it... fortunately, now everything is much more simpler than in the past... take care and have a nice day...

The first computer i used was one my dad brought years ago.... it was Amega and it only took floppy discs which was just a basic computer that played old basic games... it didn't work after 2000 as my dad thought was a bug. My next computer he brought was on windows 98 and then eventually windows xp so that is the main one at their house. My laptop at my own house with my wife and kids runs on windows vista home premium. Theres a few games that i prefer to play on computer but its not working at the moment as it needs repairing.

Oh wow, that was ages ago. We got our first computer from a friend back in the early 90s. The thing was really ancient and couldn't do much. I guess the operating system was some form of DOS. It was a pain trying to remember which code we had to enter to do certain things. The only programs I remember using on there was a word processing one and a graphic program. There was also a card game on there too. And I remember it having two 5 1/4 inch floppy drives. Can't remember what kind of stuff was on the disks though. Anyways, we didn't use it much and I think we had the thing until 1995.

My first computer had a windows 95 OS and a black and white monitor. Thats about all I knew about computers at that time. I do not know much about the configuration of that PC as I was a complete noob in the matter. My uncle gave it to me and I was more than happy to start experimenting with it. I taught myself basics about windows and office and spent a lot of time playing freecell and solitaire. I have a moderate PC rig now and am running Windows 7 in it. Pretty happy the way the things are going.

No, I don't. I know I probably should, but I honestly don't. I have a rather bad memory when it comes to such things.

My first computer was a 486 with MS-DOS as the operative system. It belonged to my dad, but he then got a new one and gave that one to me. I was just a kid, but I managed very well! I played so many games on it, which also made me learn a lot of English, since the majority of those games weren't translated into Spanish. Later on we installed Windows 3.11, which also had a few games in it. I still remember that I went and personalized the whole colour theme... :) Nowadays I have a Pentium 3000 and Windows XP, even though I'm planning on upgrading my processor, since I need a more powerful computer to run Photoshop properly.
