Do You Have a "Stan"?

No, I'm not a rapper or any type of celebrity but recently I've met someone online who's starting to give me the creeps. Like that dude on the Eminem song. I don't want to block just yet nor am I interested in letting her know that I'm not interested in a friendship beyond the keyboard. I recently joined a small social networking site where I've made a lot of posts (articles). Most commenters are nice but this one person, who has the worst grammar, wants to meet in person. When I explained that I had a pretty busy schedule which included school, I thought that would be enough to politely nudge her away. After making multiple posts, she immediately wrote that she would like for me to come see her over the holidays. Yikes.

At least you have a fan, right? It's better than no fan at all.

1) Get your server checked out because those multiple posts are not cool. Seriously, I know some bloggers who ban people because they feel its a form of spamming. 2) I don't need a fan, a genuine friend would be nice but not a fan-atic. Suppose in the online community, someone sent you an email saying they wanted to get together for lunch and asking out of when can the two of you check out a movie?

Funny I was having problems with my proxy server today and was going to try Opera offline but decided to contact my ISP instead. I've posted on blogs and similar forums since 1998 and this is first time something like this has happened. :((

I'm sorry about the multiple posts. I'm using opera mini browser on my phone to post here and it has some kind of glitch. Of course I'd be shocked but I can always decline that. It may have occurred to you that you still have the control over this relationship.

Lol if you listen to Stan it is acyually completely unencouraged and of course completely made up. It is of course the kind of American stalker that everyone reads about I guess. But let's bt straight you dont "meet" people on the internet. My advice is to procede with caution it may be harmless though the internet lets you hide behind a lot of things.

LOL, you got me. I don't listen much to Em. "Stan" has kind of morphed into a term that equals fanatic in some blog communities. I'm trying to stay optimistic that this is some person who just really wants someone to talk to. I'm going to monitor the responses and if it continues, block them and report to moderator.

You would think that telling this person about your busy schedule would suffice but I see it didn't. I know you said you didn't want to tell this person that you weren't interested in meeting yet but if it were me, I would just keep telling her until she finally gives up. If she doesn't give up, I would do like you said you were going to do. Just block her. This sounds very weird!

UPDATE: Today is the eve of Turkey Day and she sends a post (shortly after I replied to someone else on the same board). Wants to know what I'm doing and that and says "i miss you hun". I'm taking her off my "friend" list and hopefully this is the last I hear from her. Thanks to all for the feedback.

LOL, her bad grammar has rubbed off on me. 2nd sentence should be "and that she wants to see me this weekend".

wow, that is creepy. but at least it's in the internet, and you can just ignore or block her if it gets worse. I had one of those in school. This ginger guy just kept following me wherever i went. imagine how i felt
