I am going to be going back to college for this spring semester but I have fear I am going to fail if I can't stay focused and keep my grades up...I am usually a good student passing with a B average C's on an occasion but that's only because I can't stay focused and lately I've been zoning out bad and I'm not sure what to do it's gotten so bad where I zone out while I'm walking in public and feel like I'm going to hurt someone or get hurt myself cause I can't pay attention...Fyi coffee doesn't work for me and energy drinks always make me crash hard and there is no way in hell i'm going to take the "Study Pill" I'm against drugs I don't do that crap...so I ask How can I keep myself to stay focused?...

Hello PurpleOrchids! Focus is a challenging trait you need to make practice in order to achieve it. Try reading sometimes, it really helps with the focus, however with regard to studies, focus is really hard especially if you have other hobbies that distract you. Now, with regard to zoning out, I believe it would help if you join extra-curricular activities on your school like sports in order for your time to be balanced, instead of zoning out, your body will be conditioned since you will be working out and you get to experience good camaraderie with your peers and might establish friendship with them, who knows, they might be a big factor as well with resolving your problem. Cheers!

Well that's the thing is I can focus with books,I'm a total book worm...once I open a really good book I don't stop reading it until it's done or I fall asleep to continue the next day...I just need to learn how to bring that focus that I give my books to other things outside the pages...

This may sound bizarre but I have started drinking natural all herb rooibos tea. It is a red tea and it has helped me stay in focus for a while now. My doctor suggested it and I laughed thinking he was completely off his rocker, but I have tried this and it has been surprisingly helpful. You can also try some homeopathic things, if you want to steer clear of the actual man mad pills. I try to not ever take those.

Me too we the same case. I'm going back to school by January. Last time went to school I use to slack off a lot, I use to cut classes on daily basis that's why I need to work for a while to pursue my studies because the time I showed to my sisters my grades she's kind a pissed off. Then she told that I need to work my butt off to realize that money does not come easy these days and need fend for myself. Lesson learned every penny I make in my job I see to it that I spent it wisely. Well since this is my own money chances are I'll do good in school. Try for yourself see if it works.

It sounds like you're simply just not interested in what you're studying. Losing focus and drifting off is a sign of boredom. Is there something else you'd rather be doing or some place else you'd rather be? Not sure I understand that part about hurting others or yourself - are you saying that you feel like physically hurting yourself or others? Or, are you saying that you day-dreaming mind may cause an accident?

you need a deep rest everyday my friend. This can help you to stay focus. Maybe you need to make your own list of priorities. Do not do something not important for the day. Listen some routine music and clean up your desk. These will help to you.
