Bios-WARNING

To all myloters...don't try to update bios and especially not from windows. I had a great machine and i kept it in tip top condition for more than 5 years. And than about a week ago i plugged extra hard drive in my system and dwd rw wouldn't burn anymore. So i played a little with bios settings which was not the first time. Than i got the idea to update bios which sounds resonable. So i went to gigabyte site and found my motherboard and downloaded latest bios. I still don't know how you're suppose to do it but i updated bios from windows instead of usb when booting or something like that. Next thing i know after restart the monitor was just black. Tried everything and someone came to help me but the ony option would be to replace the whole motherboard so i decided to buy new pc instead. As i saw in many forums my tip would be: DON'T REPAIR SOMETHING THAT ISN'T BROKEN...this time meaning don't upgrade bios if it works fine. Pc systems and hardware are generally pretty idiot proof but bios really is the one thing that will destroy pc just like that. Take notes dear myloters, learn from my error, have a great day

Yeah, I have update my bios some time ago and it was normally, I used a program that did it by the windows, sorry I don't have the name of the program, but it was very easy. I updated my bios because I have bought another processor, and my bios did not "knew" that one. thank you and have a nice day.

Thank you and i'm glad you managed to upgrade it. Stats are such that one in every 100 bios updates goes wrong ending with serious pc problems. Try to do it from usb because if you do it while booting bios can be reset if it fails...but not if it fails with windows running. Have a great day

I'm surprised a Gigabyte BIOS update that's not meant for running in Windows would allow you to run it in Windows. If it allowed execution without questioning, then you probably ran it correctly. Have you switched the CLEAR CMOS jumper on the motherboard? Refer to your motherboard's manual to locate the CLEAR CMOS jumper and follow the directions. Normally, after a BIOS update, the memory locations of saved data in CMOS will be mismatched with the new BIOS code. Clear the CMOS data (with computer unpowered, switch jumper, usually to 1-2, for a few seconds before returning the jumper back to its original position, usually 2-3) before trying to turn on the computer again... it should work

hi slolvenc1 I learned from my son not to monkey around with bios and anything that needs maintaining I do leave to him as he knows what he is doing. He just told me to live Bios alone and so I have.Anyway it was acting like it should so thats all that counts.

I sure to appreciate your tips. I hate that all happened to you. I really won't have to worry about that tho, because I have no idea what any of that is. If something happens to my computers, I have a great friend from church and a neighbor 2 doors down who won't even charge me anything, but I always give him several dollars.

Nice of you to pay him even if you don't have to. And am happy you haven't had such problems so far because even he couldn't help you if you did the same as i did. Anyway have a great day, thanks for comment(=

maybe you could try this methord : discharge the bios (upplug the battery that gives the bios power supply on the motherboard); do the manual setting parameters of bios .

Did that but it only resets password by clearing cmos so no luck there. Thanks anyway

You could have just replace the BIOS chip, but then the cost and time involved would not have been worth it.
