Real Life Quidditch

If you know anything about the Harry Potter books and movies, you've heard of Quidditch- the wizardry sport that consists of snitches, brooms, beaters and other things that are not associated with any other sport.
Well I have now heard of colleges having their own version of Quidditch, with most of the same aspects described in the book and movies, with a few substitutes (ie instead of a flying golden snitch, you have to catch a ball in a sock). This game comes with its authorized rule book and association. There are even world cups already.
This is my first time hearing about this sport outside of the fantasy world. Have you heard about it? Have you seen it? Maybe even someone here is on a team that plays it.

The funny thing is that I heard about this yesterday morning on the morning news, they had a world tournament in New York I believe. I assume it is like any live action role-playing game in which certain concessions have to be made so the they can play, represent what is happening. Considering how popular the books and films are it is not surprising that Quidditch would result in people trying to re-enact the game(it should be no different the the Star war sabre battles or the LOTR battle re-enactments). You're right. We should have seen this coming. If people can have light saber wars, why not have a full fledge Quidditch game. lol

Haha, yep, it's real! The college I go to actually has its own Quidditch team. I'm not a big Harry Potter fan, so I'm not on it and I've never seen them play, but I always get emails about the team and just about anyone can join. I think I should watch it sometime to see exactly how they play. It's interesting to think about, but I think I'd get bored of it because I'm not a big fan. lol :)

wow, I would have never thought that Quidditch would come to life. I'm that big of a fan of Harry Potter either so I doubt I would play the sport either, but it might be interesting to watch. I wonder if my old college has a team. hm. lol :)
