To say that I like driving would be a gross understatement. Driving is my passion. That may be because I am with the cars right from my child hood doing all sorts of work, cleaning, greasing, wax polishing ---. My father had two cars when I got to know about it. Both Ford the first one 1940 model in India we call it "Chalti ka naam Gadi" (The one that moves is a car) as that type of vehicle was used in the movie by same name. The other car was Ford-1950 model with big V-8 engine, the model somewhat resembling the modern Honda-CRV. Both these cars my father bought second hand as I learnt about it later. In 1961 just before the independence of Goa, my father bought a brand new 'Holden', G.M.C.'s Australian made car. Even compared to the modern day cars, that was a beautiful model. That car was with us till last year when we sold it for scrap, mind you the scrap value of the car was even more than purchase price.
I purchased my first car when I was in Nigeria working as an Engineer. My first car there was Volks wagon beetle. I replaced it with Peogeot-504, a big and comfortable car compared to beetle. I had a nasty accident with this car, almost brand new car had to be written off. I consider myself lucky to survive that accident. When in Nigeria we used to get 4 days holidays for both Christian and Muslim festivals like Christmas, Easter, Eid . 3-4 times we went for a long drive covering about 1000 Kms. one way, most of the driving was being done by me.
Tell us your experience about the cars and long drives undertaken.

My first car was a 1987 Toyota Camry that was driven a little more 200,000 miles. Most of the driving was done by my father, but the last leg of car rides were done by me. After that car finished the 200,000 mark, there was significant hardship in getting the car to excel fast. When I entered into high ways, this car would take more than a minute and thirty seconds to get to 65 mph. Lots of people would disrespect me when driving, as people would cut me off and pass in front of me illegally. To my surprise, a couple years after we scrapped that, I got to own an Acura TL 2004 edition. This car has 270 horse power and can beat the C Class, E Class and M Class Mercedes of 2004. Driving this car is really easy and I tend to not notice much discomfort or bore when I'm in it.

I've learned how to drive when I was 11 years old and i learned it by myself out of curiosity. When my parents are not home and my Uncle who was very encouraging then would use our car, i would join him and asked him several questions until he allowed me to hold the wheels and then shift the manual gears.
When I finally got my car, the longest drive I've had so far was only 65 kilometers. I've never driven as far as that and I usually do it every weekend because I go home to my hometown every weekend.

Almost every weekend, I would say, if the weather permits. After working long days over the week, I always feel like driving out of town to the country side for rejuvenating and refreshing. The country side around the city is really very pleasant and beautiful. When the weather does not permit, then I just has to spend the weekend in town.

Glad someone enjoys it. I am not one of those people. When I was a kid we'd drive from Missouri to Florida to see my paternal grandparents. That's a bit over 1300 miles. These days a long drive is about 2 hours to my in laws and 2 hours back.

Not very often, I do not like long drives that much, so I try to avoid it. I have done some really long ones, such as being in a car for two whole days (including one night), though, but I did not drive all of the way of course, that would be really dangerous!

For me, if I can drive it in one day then I will. The other half of my family lives in Washington while my immediate family and I live in California. We have driven from California to Washington taking over 18 hours leaving at 3am and arriving at 10pm. We did this a few times, but now we drive it half one day and half the next staying overnight in Northern California.
Last summer, we attended a family reunion with my husband's side of the family driving to Montana. Unfortunately, my mother-in-law passed away in February of this year. Next summer, we will make the trip back to Montana to spread her ashes.

I drive about 40 km with my Motor to go to my parents house every saturdays. Can we call it a long drive? In my country, there are a lot of motor in the road so I need to focus a lot. There always has suddenly another motor who across the street so my speed is slowly, just about 50-60 km/h. DO you think it good for me?
