Should the Bush Tax Cuts Be Renewed For Everyone?

Originally I wasn't for renewing the tax cuts for the upper-class(people making $250,000 or more). Seriously, the middle and lower class people are already suffering enough financially as it is more so then many of the upper-class income people. Also when it comes to tax cuts for the higher income individuals its not about the millionaire or billionaires as much, but mainly people making a little over $250,000 or under $1,000,000 which mainly are the small businesses. My point is businesses still are not hiring as much as they should and U.S. unemployment still remains above 9%. People especially the Republicans are quick to point out that companies and more so small businesses are not hiring because it would be too hard on them if they didn't get the Bush tax cuts extended. If renewing the Bush Tax Cuts is what it takes to help or get businesses to start hiring more then I'm all for it. Whats your opinion?

hi elmiklo yes indeed if thats what it takes to get all the damned'
businesses to start hiring I am for it, no matter what. my own
son has had a devil of a time trying to get a job again
and did get a part time job but now the jerk boss only wants him once a week so its back to square one again. I would love to get out ot this damned retirement center as I am only here as we got evicted and without money you are just homeless. I am in a retirement center, not free do not get that idea, it takes most of my social security and ssi checks to pay the rent and board each month. nor as one mylotter snottily suggested I get free internet no , I pay 39 dollars each month for it so thats not free.my son got gov. help to get into House America so he could look for work and have an address to give. this is really horrible this economy in our great United State and it does not look like its over yet either. I am bitter yes as I want out of here so I can cook for myself.

I feel for you Hatley, and sadly I fear, your plight is only the beginning of so many other families. I can relate to your son's predicament, I find myself in a similar situation. Things just suck right now - despite the numbers they post for unemployment. WE have passed the 9% mark long ago, we are easily hovering around the 13%-14% (or more) of total non-workers.

Yes I agree.. tax cuts to EVERYONE will help our economy. So what if the rich get tax cuts as well? What happens when rich people have more money in their pockets? They spend it. They'll go out to eat more, go shopping more, buy more stuff. That money then is in the hands of a business who must hire employees to wait on customers. My husband works in a retail store.. if he didn't have customers he wouldn't have a job!
See.. thing is.. those who do earn $250,000+ a year probably went to college and have probably worked long and hard to get where they are. Those who make less than $100,000 a year probably did not go to college, and have not worked for very long to get where they are. Perhaps they can keep working to get more money, or maybe they're just stuck at low paying jobs for their whole lives... either way. Why should the person who went to college and worked their butts off have to shell out more tax money and watch the government give breaks to this guy who's flipping burgers at McDonald's just because he dropped out of high school?
Think about it.. how would you feel if you were in the upper class? Would you be willing to give the government more money so that those who don't earn as much as you could get bigger tax breaks? Probably not. No matter who you are you probably worked really hard for your money.. and you want to keep as much of it as you can and spend it as you please. I'd rather the guy flipping burgers at McDonald's earns his money by cooking me a burger instead of by recieving my tax money from the government.

katsmeow1213, it would depend on how much money i had. there's also a big difference with a small business that makes between $250,000-$1,000,000 and someone who is a multimillionaire or billionaire. that's why i would like to see a fourth tax bracket for the richest of the rich. people like that got plenty of money to pay extra taxes in tough times.

only if the government was seriously prepared to cut spending in return. this way the federal deficit would be lowered. if not then i don't think it would be fair. i know the increasing of taxes would lower the federal deficit but still they need to cut spending in other areas. its tough decision and i don't think many seriously are willing to make the sacrifice.

I think, no matter how much money I had, I'd much rather I be the one to decide how to spend it, and not have the government tell me I need to pay them more because THEY consider me rich. If I had more than I needed I'd be more than happy to share my wealth with charities.. but I want to be the one to make that call as it would be MY money that I earned.
Not to mention, you must realize that those who earn that amount of money already pay ridiculous taxes. Where I currently pay perhaps $200 a week total to taxes and medicare.. someone making 3x what I do will pay 3x the taxes. Also millionaires tend to have multiple homes so are paying taxes on all of them, they buy more stuff paying more sales taxes than I do as I don't buy much since I can't afford to. So they're already giving a good chunk of their money to the government. Would you feel it fair for the government to demand more? Perhaps that's why so many of our famous celebrities are choosing to live in other countries!

Do what they have to, although I don't see the companies hiring because they do it.

If the same things are done in the same way there is no reason to expect anything to change. They didn't hire or grow when they had the tax breaks, and still they managed to net over $250,000. We are all going to have to pull in our belts, the the rich,by increased taxes, and the rest of us by losted deductions, such as health care and mortgage interest. But we also need to tax the goods from China and other nations who maintian hugh workforces making less than a living wage and therefor having a big advantage in the sale of goods.

savypat, it seems to me your referring to the top companies. i'm referring mostly to small businesses that need the tax cuts extended the most. most businesses are afraid to hire right now including the top companies that have record amounts of cash because they don't know whats going to transpire. i know increasing taxes on any business especially now definitely won't encourage them to hire workers. i'm not saying just because all the bush tax cuts are extended that employers will mostly hire workers. i know employers would be more then likely to hire compared to the other way around.
