Munggo during Fridays?

What is the rationale behind the fact that Munggo is predominantly served in restaurants and carinderias during Fridays? Is this a superstitious belief among Filipinos? Or just plain tradition or practice?

I am pinoy too but seems that practice is not applicable here in our province. We do eat munggo whenever we like. We can eat everyday if we want too. Munggo is epic together with pork! . Just let me know from which province or which part of the philippines is this practice 'cause i'm curious now. I never heard this before. Have a nice day!

I observe it here in Manila specially in the small eateries or carinderia.

This is also a question in my mind, friend. I don't know why they serve munggo in friday isn't good to serve in monday or any day? I think that tradition is a superstitious belief...?

I noticed that too. I think it goes back to our Lenten practice of no meat on Fridays during the Lent season. So a lot of Catholics eat monggo beans in lieu of fish. Plus its a lot cheaper. Since monggo is delicious, Filipinos have taken to eating them even on non-Lent Fridays. I guess they just got used to eating them only on Fridays. There's no rationale, in fact its a little irrational don't you think? But that's the reasoning behind this practice.

I agree with TheAdvocate.. sometimes, instead of monggo they'll prepare pinakbet or diningding.. besides, it is nutritious and yummy..

So that's the reason, I get it now. Thank you for this information. But in anycase, munggo is still good any day of the week.

From what i heard this practice of serving munggo emanated from Bulacan. It's being served specially on Fridays. As to the reason, i don't know until now. Well, in our province we don't practice that. we serve it anytime of the week that it is available. Munggo cooked with tidbits of tinapa is the best ! For me, it's better tasting than having bits of chicken . I usually also add tidbits of chicharon which make it more so delicious!

When I was in high school, this tradition is so common to the canteen where we eat... Friday is munggo day! But hello, I love munggo!!! I would eat them any time (well, as long as they are available). You know what, you kind of remind me that munggo actually exists.... why? We have not eaten munggo for quite some time now... actually maybe almost a year. My family is not pretty much fund of cooking this since it requires quite a long time preparation because you still have to "soften" the munggo, but my brother and I really like to eat munggo. It's delicious! Ohhhh... You made me long for something... I want munggo!!!
