that if you leave the top on your water bottle the employees just throw the whole thing away? I was watching Living with Ed (Ed Begley,Jr.)on tv , and found this out! How many of us just throw those bottles in the recycle bin tops and all!?! If you do, apparently they end up in a landfill anyway.

Wow! I didn't know that.
It's very scary to think of
all the trash being dumped into land fills.
That stuff doesn't just decompose and
go away like so many people think.
Thanks for the update on the water
bottle situation.
I'm really into saving the planet
and recycling.
Right now, my daughter is studying
recycling in her home school projects.
I'll try to find the documentary you were
talking about.
Might be interested in watching.

Thank you very much for telling us this. It´s so easy to take out the tops and it does make a difference. In my city recycling is not mandatory but I am aware that we have to do all we can to help our polluted planet.
Happy posting!

Wow! I didn't know that! Seems like dramatic overkill really. One, you would think that you could recycle the lids, as they are plastic as well. Second, couldn't you enlist someone or create a machine that will separate the lid from the bottle? Even a small saw that would cut the bottle off at the neck would be a lot less wasteful than throwing the entire bottle away. You would think that the people running the recycling facilities would care just a bit more than to send all these bottles to the dump.

Isn't that the dumbest thing? At some schools they only allow the caps to be brought in! It is so annoying...all the hype and talk and hoopla about recycle and "go green" and protect the environment...and then we get this. Just makes you not want to bother to recycle.
I however, keep the caps on my own as they make great little "things" for crafts for my grand daughters. Right now I am savings them so they can make magnets for gifts...put a little picture of their face in the bottom side of the cap and glitter around the edges and a magnet on the backside... great for gifts for the entire family! Also, different colors for things like checkers, or marble games or for crafts like bowls and to glue to stack and things like that.

You are bringing interesting concerns to the MyLot discussions area. This seems like something I've never thought about. I really though those caps could find a use when recycled, but those land fills will need more fillings due to bottle caps. Oh if there was a way that I could recycle bottle caps and make millions of dollars. It would be a dream come true and my achievements would last many life times.
