I recently dropped my garmin nuvi and the LCD screen is broken. I considered a few options which are : 1. Repair the existing one 2. Buy a refurbished unit ($130 with 1 month warranty) 3. Buy a new one ($225 with 1 year warranty) 4. Bid for one in auction (May get one either lower price or higher than market price) I thought of taking the 2nd option but most my family members do not think it is worthwhile as there is only a 1 month warranty. Would you go for the refurbished unit and take the risk that it won't get spoil after the 1 month warranty or would you rather choose other options? Option 1 is expensive and i think it is not worth while to choose it as it is almost the same price as the refurbished unit.

Hi asxenon! For me, if the particular gadget or my personal phone or in your case, your navigator, if this gadget is very important, then I would not mind buying a new one. Having a reliable gadget is much better rather than having a refurbished one, however, it's actually your prerogative, asxenon. There are factors that you need to consider such as your budget, right? So, you can think it over, list the pros and cons, cheers!

Thanks for the feedback frenzylady. As far as i know refurbished units are actually genuine products from the manufacturer, however, due to some defect or maybe customer complain and returned the item for checking. Some of the units were found to be faulty and some are actually working properly. They would repair those faulty units and sell it out as refurbished sets. However, the problem with this particular one is, it is a US refurbished unit and the seller only provide a 1 month warranty here in my home country whereas it would be a 1 year warranty if i am in the US. Usually it won't get spoil within 1 year... but what happens if i am the unlucky one? Therefore i don't know which decision to take :D Cheers!
