I'm NOT Happy With My Werther's Original Toffees

Remember the old Grandad with his Grandson and the cries of "pervert" from the masses watching the ad? Aah, those were the days. "Fancy a Werther's little boy.."
Anyway, I digress...
John bought some sweets earlier as we were dangerously low on supplies and I advised him on getting some that "lasted more than 5 minutes" hence his decision to bring home a pack of Werther's Original. Not a tube, a proper pack, if that makes sense.
Well, I must say, I'm f*cking disappointed to say the least. For a start, there is no golden wrapper on them now, just some naff..er, paper and gold wrapper and the sweets themselves..well, what can I say? They are a completely different shape (not oval and smooth) but er, oblong and smaller.
Are there a few versions of this sweet or what, as I'm no expert on them but if they have been changed then the manufacturers deserve a bloody good smacking if you ask me.
Still fancy a Werther's little boy?
Thought not!!!

Hubby bought the "proper" Wether's recently and they've gone smaller as well, like all sweets it seems.

Apparently, we have different versions of the same sweet. You learn something new every day!

Hi Janey,
I love Werther's Original Toffees myself, and I am so glad you put this discussion up, not loong ago I ask my hub toget me some, he did and I complained its not the same, he didn't understand me as its says Wherthers, I told him its not the same, its smaller and not oval, the wrappers are not right ones either, my hub thought I have lost the plot,. I will show him your discussion to him, now he'll know what I am talking about, why can't anything stay the same?

There are a lot of versions now including those chocolate & werthers flavoured sweets which are right expensive but taste lovely. We still seem to be getting the oval shaped werthers down here which come in a gold wrapper but I have seen those rectangular ones but only in tubes. Although I do agree they seem a lot smaller these days but I understand everything shrinks with age.
If you remember nuttalls mintoes, werthers do a variety of there sweet which is infused with mint and it tastes exactly the same.

When we stopped off at the Shire Horse pub on the way to Walsall yesterday a mate of mine, Sarah, told me what you are saying, that there are a few versions of the Werther's mints now. Talk about cashing in lol.
I was half expecting the oval ones but I was disappointed with these chewy jobbies that stick in your teeth!

Werther's toffees used to be really amazing and I would eat a whole bag over a one week period. But to my surprise, I threw bags of Werthers that my parents brought home in the garbage, because I felt like throwing up whenever I saw it. I think the taste has faded and there is only a mere target market of people that will still buy this product. Stores used to have many selections of Werthers, but now there aren't any brands of it at my nearby grocery and gas shops. I suppose the younger generation loves brands of candy like M and Ms and Hersheys.

I had to laugh when I saw the title of your post! You reminded me of my Nana as she loved Werther's and bought them all the time. She never bought the Toffee ones though, maybe because they bothered her false teeth. But I liked them the last time I tried them but it was a while ago. She liked the hard candies. I just took a peak at the Werther's website and they have this caramel chocolates. They look yummy. Now you have me craving something sweet!
