The end of the world or just the end of an age?

The "2012" hysteria came about because the Mayan calendar uses what's known as a "Long Count", so they measure eras and cycles in much vaster amounts of time than we're used to today - reaching the end of one of these "Long Count" cycles (which we'll do in 2012) was seen as a cause for major celebration, rather than any kind of doomsday scenario. Incidentally, the Great Pyramid of Cheops in Egypt is said to predict the end of the world as being in 2979. As for it being the "end of an age", I don't believe that anything has been "destined" to happen, however, I think that current issues such as environment, over-population, new technology etc. will become more pressing in the future, so maybe the "new age" will happen when we make some kind of major technological or intellectual advancement that spreads worldwide.

i believe in the maian calendar, and so i don't believe in the world ending in 2012. maian calendar predicted everything that happened perfectly, so why people choose not to believe in 2012? but there it sais that we'll reach a new level of consciousness, so i don't know where everyone got this idea of the world ending

As I believe in the bible prophecy. I do believe that end of the world not the end of an age. All prophesied in the bible is done and only one thing didn't fulfill this the second coming of Jesus Christ. There is no end of the world in that day friend. No one knows when the time of Lord. Only God who created everything
