What's the secret to have a blog for ten years?

I find it really, really rare to have a blog that is longer than 2 years even. How do we motivate our selves to continue with the same blog to years without end? Posting once a month? Just not deleting it will be fine and the will to blog will come back? What do you think?

Good content, attractive presentation and a well planned publicity are some of the minimum basic requirements for the survival of a blog for a long time.

If your blog is earning for you, then I'm sure you'll be motivated to blog. :D But seriously, that actually depends on the blogger. When I started blogging, it was just for a personal blog. As I kid, I always write my thoughts down in my diary so now I think of my blog as my online diary. And then later on, I met new friends who are also bloggers and most of my inspiration to write actually came from them.

hi Katie it would help to have something that you are really passionate about and then treat it like a flower garden. water it when you feel you have something really interesting to say. then let it flower for a few days.come back once in awhile say once a'week and maybe weed it if necessary. sometimes people might write something 'that will sicken your flowers so delete and delete as necessary. come back occasionally to see if there are any new blooms out yet.feed them as needed to keep them healthy then let them grow.

i had one for a few years.. probably about 4-5 but eventually deleted it lol.. i was really good about keeping it up to date but then got on other sites and kept forgetting to even update it.. a lot of it was during a bad time in my life and i didnt want to read back and see the sad/bad times so i just got rid of it since all my friends had moved to different sites.. but yeah i couldnt imagine being that committed but surely a lot of people are

I'd say that the most important thing is to have a subject that can keep you interested in writing about it for that long. And it also has to be a subject that will interest other people. Comments from readers, and the discussions that can get started from them let you know that you're not just writing in a vacuum, and that other people appreciate your words. It would probably help not to try to write every single day, either, because it's very hard to keep that up for any length of time. Readers also need a break and may not want to follow someone who writes every day. Two or three times a week will keep them coming back, but not posting often enough will just lose them.
