Have you ever had a supervisor that was completely unprofessional?

I was talking to a family member of mine and they were telling me about a boss that was bad. Now I have had some bosses that might not have fit their job but they were pretty professional, despite being in over their heads. This guy was rude and abrasive, always cutting down his workers, cussing them out when they did something wrong and taking all of the credit when everything went right. It is just amazing the people that get into power. It really should not be but it is.

My previous supervisor was such an a-hole that he would embarrass his subordinates in front of others. He would say things that are so off and are very much UNPROFESSIONAL! He would come up with all sorts of things just for him to reprimand his people just to look like he was doing his job. He sleeps under his table too!( and I had witnessed it myself) like a fetus making himself fit under his station.. then when our CEO passed by to go to his office already, he came out under the table and told me " look busy!" what the heck!! I do not need to look busy as I am REALLY BUSY doing my job creating tickets! now, I think I am the one who should be telling that to him, and not just look busy but rather DO YOUR JOB! what is he doing under anyway? sleeping under his desk is so...UNPROFESSIONAL! I was so sick and tired of his management that before I resigned I shouted at him! He had been bullying me and 2 other people in our department and I really had it. Someone has to tell him to his face that he is not doing things properly. I told him that one of our colleague could do what he is doing more accordingly than him. He told me " I spoke with our counterpart and she said she was relieved that you are resigning" is that what a boss should be? I know, what I did was not right, but everybody gets fed up after keeping grudges, you just have to explode. But for him to say that.. now, all the original members in his management are no longer there. He was the third Teamlead to manage our department and ONLY in his management did people start resigning after only some months. Now, that SPEAKS a lot about how he manages people. Otherwise, people will still be there until now.

The fact that people say "look busy" when they are the one's not doing their job is really, somewhere between amusing and annoying. It does say a lot about someone's management indeed where people start resigning. Thank you for your response. It is much appreciated and it contributed to the topic well. Have a nice day and thanks.

True! Actually he just plays facebook games all throughout his shift! His laptop's facing the window as he is seated near the window so that people wont know that he is just playing games via facebook. duh!! didn't he know that we can see the REFLECTION in the window when we pass by?

Yes I certainly have. I worked in a call center one time. They had certain rules about cell phones, eating etc. This one supervisor thought it ok to reprimand employees for breaking rules. But he could eat or use his phone in front of certain employees that he had just rebuked for breaking the rules. I suppose there was one set for us, and another for him.

The "do as I say, but not as I do" attitude is rather frustrating. Its always leads to one ruleset for the employees and the supervisor can really just break them. They should lead by example. Thank you for your response. It is much appreciated and it contributed to the topic well. Have a nice day and thanks.

Power tripping, as they call it. It's obvious that they've just risen to power the first or second time cuz if they've been in the position for a long time they'll know that being unprofessional is a road to failure. That is a bad recipe for success. They should treat their employees as assets.

Yeah they really should. However, they really have no idea. In the end, it may eventually catch up and they will fall worse. To the point where they will have to start for square one. Thank you for your response. It is much appreciated and it contributed to the topic well. Have a nice day and thanks.

i never had a completely unprofessional supervisor but i have met a lot from different departments and the rest of the employers air their concerns to me so that i could report it to the higher boss.

Yeah even indirectly, those people make the entire company look bad. It leads to a bad atmosphere. Thank you for your response. It is much appreciated and it contributed to the topic well. Have a nice day and thanks.

There are just people who are not born to be managers, they find it hard to lead people causing them to hold their subordinate's neck and let him follow. That becomes rude act to do.

I've had teachers in the school system growing up who were like that. It's tough trying to do the right thing as a kid, when you have an adult demanding respect when they don't even attempt to earn it. You can't get in anybodies face like a madman/woman, and disrespect them like that. There have been people in this world who I don't like, but I try to do my best to swallow my pride, and treat them the way I know they should be treated. I wouldn't ask of anything different on my behalf. I actually tried to stick up for myself by telling them that they really needed to think about the way they acted around other people. Their response almost made me laugh my head off. They said they were being real, and were not going to change just because some stupid kid didn't like it. This stupid kid(now a man) looked back at them thinking to himself "Yeah you are being real. Real ignorant" Do some people think that NOT being a jerk who is drunk with whatever amount of limited power they have at the time, is somewhat being phony?

I really do think that there are people who do think that. It is a wrong attitude but I am almost certain that people think that goes hand in hand with power. Thank you for your response. It is much appreciated and it contributed to the topic well. Have a nice day and thanks.

I think people like that get into position because there are others who tolerate them and don't complain about them. Most companies have an open door policy, maybe your relative should go talk to another boss and raise a complaint against this one. I'm sure they have confidentiality rules too to avoid being singled out for complaining.

I have no idea about the policy of that particular company. Of course there are times where policies might not shield people so its all a mess sometimes. Thank you for your response. It is much appreciated and it contributed to the topic well. Have a nice day and thanks.

Um yeah lol at my last job our supevisor of our department was extremely lazy and no one liked her. She was hardly around always use to go out and smoke but if someone comes a min late she would yell at them. She was not good with scheduling. I had to quit because of her she always use to schudle me when i had school even though I kept telling her I coudnt work those days.

Some people should not really even be allowed to be anywhere near power. It does baffle how these people who look to have no people skills are becoming supervisors. They aren't good leaders at the very least. Thank you for your response. It is much appreciated and it contributed to the topic well. Have a nice day and thanks.

30 years of them. Seldom did I ever have a boss I could say was a good boss. Usually turnover gets them in the end.

I know what you mean. Right now I have a bunch of supervisors who are remarkably stupid. They belong to a circle close to our former big boss. I don't mind to have a boss who is strict, tough and exigent but is a good professional. It's sad that nowadays this is a rare thing and you see the same picture everywhere.
