Do you believe that bad people live longer?

In my country there's a saying that goes "Matagal mamatay ang masamang damo", when translated to English "Weeds don't die easy". This saying is a metaphor used on people. "Masamang damo" literally "bad grass" or simply put, weeds, don't die easy, as do bad people. Personally I don't believe this. Life doesn't depend on how good or bad you are. Death comes unexpectedly, maybe through disease or through accidents, but not how you lived your life. I guess this saying was born when they noticed that good people die younger. I'm thinking that these people we're already terminally ill, that's why their lives are mostly devoted to doing good. What do you think?

I believe happy people live longest, give they aren't stricken with sickness. Studies have proven that being negative and hateful is stressful for you and eventually takes a toll on your health. Also "bad" people have to have an imbalance in their chakras, which can lead to sickness, just my opinion there

I agree. Living a happy life will make your body healthier. There is a belief that the mind is very powerful that it could cure diseases. I believe in this so much. When you are positive, it's like your body is excreting a "positive" substance that makes your body glow and be healthy. Maybe this is related to chakras?

Yes it is.. when your chakras are aligned you put off a positive energy :) and a good aura!

I think so because they might be given a chance to have atonement as well as learning of what they did. It's like everyone have the duty (= destiny) in this world which have to be finished.

Maybe. Since our God is merciful and gives second chance, the reason why they "kinda" live longer is so that they have time to turn away from sin.:)

I don't believe that life is dictated by how good somebody is at all. There is a Law of Evolution in which all living things improves their own strength, and as the centuries have gone by, it is pretty obvious that life-expectancy is a lot more than it used to be. Even as recently as the 1950s people had a shorter life span that what they enjoy in the 21st Century. As a Zen practitioner, I also think that the mind plays a huge part in our healthm and therefore our mortality. If we can maintain a calm and peaceful nature without denial in any way, we could live longer. Zen masters are known to live very long lives in some instances. If we are constantly stressed and worried about situations in our life, then that is going to put pressure on our nervous and immune systems and can shorten our life. _Derek

Zen is a way of life. On my profile there are links that explain what Zen is and meditation (called zazen) that is the basis of Zen life. _Derek

That saying basically means 'nice guys finish first' which in turn means that bad guys, those who cheat, who are corrupted and what not, stays alive longer.

On the religious side, Yeah, you're right. I always believed that life on earth is God's test for us, if we deserve to be in his Kingdom or not. I guess if you're good as God prescribes, you'll be with him sooner :)

I don't think that bad people live longer. Most of the people live longer because they do certain good things in their daily routine. If a person do exercise, eat healthy foods and very health conscious, visited doctors regularly then he or she would definitely live longer. If a health conscious person is bad then he will live longer and if a bad person is not health conscious then he would not live longer. Good man but bad habit wouldn't live for a long time. This is as simple as you think about it.

Yup. A great factor for determining life expectancy is how you take care of your body

Hi knicnax, similar proverbs are there available in our national language Urdu and also in our native and regional languages. it mean this containing in the sentences of different languages are spoken all over the world. so we can boldly say that are saying contains universal truth. such sayings come in existence after experience of years and could be prove them as a engraved line on the stone. In case, you do not believe it and you argue against it. I will say that your thoughts are basing on your personal experience. But the saying you quoted is saying of majority.

You have a point there, but these are sayings, stuff that was passed down from generation to generation, back then when civilization didn't know as much as we do now. Aside from sayings like these we also have a few called "pamahiin" which are sayings too, but these forbid you to stuff, like don't cut your nails at night because you're mum will die. It's a saying that existed as far as anyone I know can remember (and that includes my ancient grandparents), but it's not true at all.

Hi. kincnax. I have heard of this saying. I do believe that it seems like the good may die before the bad in certain cases. But, this is not always true. I have seen many bad people die because they have done something wrong that they should not have done. So, yes, bad people can die quicker as well as the youngest too. When it is time for a person to go, it is time for them to go, when it is in God's will.

I agree with you. For me it's neither true nor false. It is true sometime, it's false sometimes too. Only God can tell when our time is

Do you also notice that spending, like, for example, 30 minutes with a person you don't like and would like to get rid of quick, feels like hours even decades? While spending, like, 4 hours with a person you really like only feels like minutes. I think that's the same way with "masamang damo" or weeds. It is only our perception that they last longer here on earth compared to pleasant people. But really we all have our different time to go. When it's time it is time. Spiritually though, if it is true in fact that they are the hardest to get rid of, maybe that's because God wants to give them a chance to change before their time is up.

Onga no? Being with someone you don't like or doing something you don't like to do feels like forever. In the same sense, our loathing for bad people makes us feel like they're living for a long time already. Too long for our comfort

The first things your discussion header reminded was, my girlfriend, lol. She usually says this, when she has to rant about someone who she dislikes. Not that she believes it but, it's like she wants to believe it. I hope you understand, hehe.. Anyways, i don't believe in this. In a way, you could say a few selfish people stay longer but not like the good ones don't.

As far as I am concerned, I do do not want to believe that the bad man can live a longer life. But actually, in our real life we can see that the bad usually live not only a longer life ,but also live a very comfortable life. So I may not believe the world, how can This be?I just know that the bad usually can not live longer in the TV now.

I don't really believe in this saying too- but I have observed it to be quite true. Since many god people have been dying..and the really bad people in the government are still alive and continue doing bad deeds.

This is a tough question to answer because examples of both sides can be found everywhere. The expression 'the good die young' often comforts some people in that it gives a reason for an unexpected passing. I think each individual has purpose and once they fulfill that purpose, their time here is up. In some mystical way I think there is total fairness to this system and one day we shall all understand it...

lol... bad people live longer in tv dramas. Personally, I feel how long a person lives depends on that individual. It is said that one's lifespan is destined but I think if the person takes good care of his health and live healthily and happily, he is bound to live longer.

I do believe bad people live longer.Because of this I want to die young! Lol. I witnessed this statement from my father in law. I do not know if it is coincidence. But I do have the feeling that God let them live longer for them to have time to repent for their sins.

I think that healthy people live longer. The ones in the provinces that works and eat right should live longer. Bad people die early because they will kill each other. Bad people are hard to kill is more correct. They are harder to kill because they have a great survival and killer instinct. They are more likely have an escape plan than normal people.

Hi there fellow countryman. I dont think this is true though because a lot of gangsters, criminals die very young because they got shot or got killed by another gangster etc. Instead of living their lives until the age 70 or more it just ended at the age of 20. I dont think that dying at the age 20 or 30 is living long.

I agree. 20 or 30 is very young. It's because you're just about to start, or just starting life as an adult. You still have a lot ahead. Like working, getting promoted, getting married, having children, retiring, having grand children etc

Every person was sent to this world to do some tasks such as we do in our lives.if any of you believe in God that you will get agree on what ever i say.You go to your job daily you have to finish you task that your boss gives you when you finish those then you are not needed there you are done you come back to your house.Just like that God has given us some tasks that we have to finish they can be either for us or for other people attached to us.some people follow bad ways and do bad things may be that was in their destiny or they changed the destiny to follow the bad even at that stage that person will have to finish what he is doing. We all are sent to this world with some tasks one day when all those tasks are finished no matter if you are healthy you are strong or what you call Smart you will be done and out of this world.
