What is the oldest coin you ever owned? What do you think is the most valuable?

All of us have a knack for keeping coins we like, what is the oldest coin you ever owned? If it is not the oldest what is the most valuable. For me the oldest are Ancient Roman coins that I bought on ebay way back 2004, I also have a coin minted under the French LouisXVI ( the Monarch who got his head guillotined during the French Revolution), what about you ? what do you have there?

I think the oldest coin owned by my family were from 1928. It was used by my great grand mother as wedding coins. Then passed on to my grandmother, then passed on again to my mother, both of them also used it as wedding coins. This is the coin that I treasure the most, not really because of its possible monetary value, but more on it's sentimental value and heritage of our family. This is a family heirloom that I shall pass on to my children.

ah yes , like what you said, the first thing i got was a 1918 Fil-American nickle my Ninong (Godfather) gave me , sorry I lost it some how but it started me to a coin collecting frenzy. Sure wish i still had that coin although it's not worth much in the market,it's still one of the most important material thing i think i lost in my life which i can never get back.

Good answers, even if you are not a collector there must be something there that you set aside or what dad or grandpa asked you to keep, no need be a collector to appreciate that shiny penny , nickel or silver coin.

I used to collect coins but I gave it up and gave most of them away my oldest was also a Roman coin but I no longer have it. The oldest one I kept and still have with me is a British pence from 1826 which is actually in quite good condition.

Not quite as lavish or old as yours, but then again I'm not a collector.
