My daughter has 2 field trips tomorrow. She will only actually be spending about an hour and a half actually at school. She will be going to a performance at our local community center, then getting on a bus to the nature preserve. I hope she actually gets something out of the whole day. Seems a bit rushed to me. What do you think?

No, as a home school mom I can tell you that sometimes kids learn more if exposed to more things in shorter amounts of time. It seems to me that it is good that the schools are taking field trips as there are many here that do not. I find that the schools would be a better learning place if they were to do more things that will help to give the students more exposure to things other than books.

How old is she? If she is in her teens, then let her go. But if she is much younger, then the schedule looks kind of rushed. She might tired herself out before the end of the 2nd field trip.

She is 7. The school takes several trips a year. This is the 1st time for 2 in one day.

That really sounds like a lot of activity to be packing into one day. Maybe the school wanted to get all the field trips out of the way for financial reasons. Perhaps, this was the only day to get a big discount on one of the events, so they scheduled it the same day. Or, maybe this was just an over scheduling mistake. Either way, it really seems like a lot of stuff to be doing on one day. It would be cool if they could just schedule one event per day and then let the kids have more time on that one event. Maybe they could include an outdoor learning lesson of some kind during the field trip. Or, assign disposable cameras so the kids could take photos of the event and then turn in those at the end of the day. And, then all the photos could be used by class members to construct a collective collage. There's so many ways to make field trips worth while. When I was a kid, the field trips were always so much fun. But, they didn't really do much to follow up on the field trips with related class or home work activities. I've always wished that the schools had done more to make the field trips tie into learning activities and not just use them as an excuse to get the kids out of the school building. Anyway, I hope your daughter enjoys the trips. My own daughter loves any kind of mommy and me field trips. We do our own version of home school field trip. She's not yet seven yet. We look forward to doing many such field trips over the years.

That seems a bit out of the ordinary to me. Usually schools try to plan only one field trip on a day. Especially the nature preserve ones. They usually like to spend the whole day there to fit in lots of learning activities.

Field trip - Ocean Adventure Field trip
Field trips are something our school kids should not miss. It gives them not just enjoyment but additional experience and in-dept feel of some new places. I think two field trips in a day is a okay for as long as the places are not too far from each other. My little ones do enjoy educational field trips too and I am always supportive if they do. I want them to enjoy this experience just as I did when I was a student like them. Here may I share a photo of them in one field trip adventure.
