Christmas being over rated.Christmas seems like it is one big racket, what with all the money that people spend on that one big day.You have the gifts, foods, trimmings and all for what, one day of the year.Do you think that we all go over the top, spending loads of money, some people spending money that they can not afford.

I was having this discussion with one of my friends the other day. It seems that Christmas has become even more of a big commercial scam, forcing people to buy things that they don't actually need. My little sisters Christmas list consists of a laptop (they have a laptop they share, and she's 9!) and GHD's, over £100 worth of hair straighteners. I think it's so overrated and pointless, but then maybe I'm biased seeing as everyone forgets my birthday on the 23rd December ;)

It must be really awful that your birthday is two days away from christmas.I think like you do say there are alot of people out there that tend to go over the top at christmas and lets face it the things we get as gifts, well they sometimes are not the things that we would buy ourselves.

Don't get me wrong. I mean I love the fact that I can fill my bathroom up with a million smelly gift sets, and eat my way through 10kg of chocolate... Although in all honesty, people just tend to get my Christmas presents back for their birthdays.

I tend to pass a few things off on people that i know as well, there are some gifts that we just already have enough of and i think that recycle is great when there is a birthday.lol.

OMG yes, we definitely do! The stores get in so much more stock for Christmas as well..so we feel we need to buy it. The reason for the season is also gone. Sad, I say.

I think that alot of shops also put alot of the food things up that we all tend to get at christmas, as well as the cost of the toys and other gifts that we buy.I tend to give people money and the strange thing is, they also give me money, lol, pointless if you ask me.

I also think that there are alot of people that go way over the top when it comes to competing with others at christmas and it is not until after christmas that they feel really strained with knowing all the cost. The only people that really enjoys people spending is the shops.

I think we just have to make sure we focus in on the things that matter. And I think it starts with teaching our children the right way to think about Christmas. Too many kids just want, want, want. And they have no idea how to give. My parents did a good job with my sister and I, and their parents did a good job with them. We always help out some way in Christmas within the community, and my parents were always very careful not to spend more on our gifts than they could afford. One Christmas we couldn't afford much, so my parents were very creative. They took us to garage sales. My mom took me, my dad took my sister - to separate sales. And we found gifts for each other that way. The whole time they made it seem like a game. Hunting for buried treasure. Finding something really cool in the middle of a bunch of junk. And it wasn't until we were much older when we realized that we had done that because we were poor. At the time it didn't register with us. We just thought it was the coolest thing at the time.

I think that there are alot of children that tend to want alot of things that their parents can not afford to buy, but still the parents will buy them the things that they are asking for. Then after christmas they are over loaded with the bills and they have no money to pay for the things that they have bought. All the worry and cost just for the one day.

you are so right. we get stuff that we really dont need. Christmas is for people's greed. I buy things for my kids that they need and that we cannot afford to buy through the year.

I think that we buy alot of food things that we never seem to eat and only end up throwing them away.I also think that we tend to buy gifts for people that end up not using the gifts as well, as i know that i am a person like that.I think that we would all be better off keeping our money, as i give a friend money each year and she gives me money in return, whats the point in that, lol.

My savior was born on this time of the year and I would like to offer his love to each one of you. I buy a few gifts but he was born to give us the best gift, the gift of eternal life.

Like they say, it is only once a year. Of course they should not spend just for the sake of it. They should budget how much they wanted to spend for the festive period and stay within it.

After every christmas you hear of people struggling with debt as they have got credit cards just to pay for christmas.I think that people should save during the year that way they will not need to worry at christmas time.
