5 Year Old Girls No Longer Want To Be Princesses?

Okay, I read this in an article (and I disagree with the writer on MANY points) but it did make me wonder. Are 5 year old girls turning away from being pretty little princesses? When I was a kid, I know I was never one of those girls who dressed like Disney princesses (in fact I preferred all the sidekicks). In fact when me and my friends would play with dolls, I never wanted to be the princess. I rather be one of the sidekicks or the all knowing godmother. However, I still enjoyed a few like Ariel, Pocahontas, Jasmine and Mulan. Now, girls are suppose to be less involved about being princesses and more concerned about being "hot" and "acting cool." When did 5 year olds worry about being hot? Please don't tell me they are wearing butt hugging jeans and low collar shirts trying to show cleavage!

I think those 5 year old girls who does not anymore want to be princesses are those who are exposed to the likes of hanna montana. Teens stars definitely have great influence even to the younger ones, that is why parents should always supervise their kids in choosing a tv program. I have a 6 year old girl and I dont let her watch those kind of program because her mind is not yet ready for it. I just let her watch the playhouse disney channel and at a limited time only. My little girl still love to play princess and a ballerina as well. She does not need to have those pretty expensive costumes to play as princess, all she need is a good imagination and a supportive mother who plays as the queen (that would be me,lol:)

lol, ah that sounds so cute. you're right, kids don't need expensive outfits or accessories if their imagination is supported and nurtured. Like you and the poster above you said, I guess what these kids view really influence them in so many ways.
