Profiles? Do you read them?

I was nosing through peoples profiles recently and wondered, does anyone else actually read profiles? I know that they may not have a lot of information on them, and may not be as advanced as some social networking sites, but do you take the time out to see what people have been talking about? When you add a friend, do you read their profile and interests first? Or just add them? Do you think Mylot could do something to improve profiles, so we could all find out a little bit more about each other? Answers on a postcard please! Or just here will do... ;)

I quite frequently read people's profiles. I would NEVER accept a friend request (or add someone as a friend) without doing so. First of all, I want to see what kind of 'MyLotter' they are - whether they are given to starting useful discussions or whether they give good quality responses and comments. Then I want to know what they are interested in and who their other friends are. I do not add everyone who asks to be a friend, by any means, especially if they have little to show for themselves. If their profile shows very little activity (and they have not been active in any discussions in which I have taken part) then I seriously question their motives for wanting me as a friend! I don't appreciate the kind of person who adds me simply in order to immediately spam me with their latest affiliate/referral links. It is rather a shame, I think, that one cannot send a short message explaining why one wants to invite someone as a friend: the only real alternative is to take part in discussions - either by responding or commenting - before one invites someone.

MyLot does actually offer some very good and flexible ways of producing a good profile. It's just a shame that so many people fail to make their profiles readable, interesting and useful. It seems that even those who know a little about HTML very often miss the point of the Profile entirely and either clutter it up with endless banners or choose colours which make it completely unreadable! If I can't read a word of it because it's in Dark Blue on Black, I generally go away FAST, never to return!

I do know what you mean, and even though I cannot really say much as I have links in my profile (and even now a banner!) I would love to write a detailled profile about myself. I do find it hard to put into words sometimes, the whole 'about me' thing, which is why I have a tiny bit up front with my links, and then I leave my responses and discussions to do the rest of the work for me.

I do not just go through mylot members profiles. When I read through others discussions, responses and comments, they would have mentioned to see their profile for any link or so . So at those times I visit their profiles and go through them and check from which country they are from and all. I don't add friends unless I have the urge of asking anything via messaging. When others add me as as friends, I don't visit their profiles. I just accept their request as it doesn't give any problems in having any no of friends on mylot

I see, so really the only time you go through peoples profiles is if they have a link they want you to look at on there? That makes sense. Do you think if Mylot put more information and stuff on peoples profiles it would make you want to look at them a bit more? Or are you just not interested in profiles at all.

I don't read profiles. If i already know the person why should i waste time to read their profile except if i don't know the person that's the time i read profile. Do you think that they put on their profile are true? that's why i don't read profile.

Haha, I know what you mean about what people saying is not true. I used to spend a lot of time on chat rooms and was amazed at how many models, firemen, millionaires, etc were on there. It just shows that once people are behind the comfort of their own computer screen, they can be whoever they want to be...!

I check profile in some occasions to get some information regarding the poster. Sometimes it's just out of curiosity but more often if I the poster want's to show an earning site that he or she has already earned from.

Yes, I read them from time to time, except for the ones full of links and banners, I am interested in hearing what goes on in other people's lives, there's always something to relate and feel like I'm not alone when .. (whichever thing I'm going through), I admit I don't upkeep my own profile, which I should, lol.

I know exactly what you mean! My profile is a bit silly at the moment as I'm not 100% sure what to write about myself and I always get a blank mind when I go to write anything normal about me. It is good to see what people are up to though, and I like how you can see which discussions people are talking about, so you know much better how you relate to them.

I don't really look at profiles, because I mainly concentrate on posting, if someone posst something interesting I might look at their profile, but I had a bad experience of signing up fora site that forces you to invest in them, so I'm just going to let the account die and not visit the site anymore.

Hi there, Yes, i like to read what others have written in their profiles and i also like to see their pictures, if they have provided any. But, i guess you can learn more about them, talking with them on discussions and it is also a nice way to make friends with people. And talking about improving mylot profiles, i am satisfied with the way it is. It is just plain and simple. You could use html tags to customize your profile.

I regularly look at members profile, especially when they have an interesting posts or when I need to know where they are from so I can relate to what they are saying. Many members here would say in their discussions like "In my country, we only have, blah blah blah.." but they never said what country they are from! So, I would like at their profiles and see where they are from. Or if their posts are really interesting, I would look at their posts started and usually find interesting subjects that I would comment on. You are right that there are very few information about the members on their profile (me, included) but I think that is enough info we need to have good discussions with them.

I read profile when I am sent friend requests and also when something they say catches my eye. I try not to though, because it is just a distraction and I have enough distractions in my life already.
